    Your difference between the Ethernet and Wi-Fi speeds may be related to the router but could also be the wireless adapter in your computer or the Wi-Fi channel.

    I would strongly recommend trying a different Wi-Fi channel as you haven't yet done so.

    Also, you may have checked this already but just make sure that your Wi-Fi connection is not open and unencrypted.

    Speedtouch micro-filters are generally quite good and reliable.

    If the DSL light is green and not flashing, it may point to other issues and not your line.

    What is the reported connection speed (in your router status page) when you have the router connected to the main socket directly? Note: this is different to the speed that you obtain through online speed checkers.

    Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 19.5

    Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 14.5 / 25.0

    SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 29.0 / 14.0

    Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / TSTC

    Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

    Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

    Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

    Loss of Link (Remote): 0

    Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 120 / 0

    FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 1,048,727

    CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 1,731

    HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 94

    Hi, got this now.bit more detail.
    inSSIDer is showing my speedtouch and BThub.
    Mines red, bthub is green, which I think is next doors? so is bthub interfereing with mine? It,s the only 2 showing on top screen with graphs;;

    gunjack said it MAY be wireless divers on pc card, but until my change to TT and new router, pointless doing anything about that;;;
    Taken inSIDDer off, don, t know how to change channels???

    Looking at those stats, your line speed is good (~7Mbps) and the connection has been up for 2 days. You have also managed to transfer over 353MB of data, in those two days so your throughput seems to be fine.

    The high number of FEC errors and CRC errors may indicate a problem with your hardware i.e. router/micro-filter or your line.

    You have a good line attenuation and SNR.

    There is probably no point in telling you how to change the channel on your router as you will be changing it in a few days.

    If you have similar issues with Wi-Fi using the new router, it will almost certainly point to a software problem. Can you test another computer or laptop with Wi-Fi?

    Is Wi-Fi security definitely enabled on your current router?

    Hi, Yes I know stats are good;;;Tried my daughters pc last week, both together, that,s what first alerted me , she was getting a continuous 4+, whilst mine was 3 to below;;;hers is a dell laptop, similar age, same spec;;;;my channels selection is on auto;;6 at present, does auto mean it can change itself???? yes, it,s definitely secure, picked my own encryption, no piggybacking , TO MY KNOWLEDGE??edit;;just realised how to change channel;;drop down from auto to whatever I require;;Leave it as you say, no one on same one,and new one coming;;;Thanks for your time , much appreciated.

    Logging of now;;;you have concurred with everything penrhyn, gunjack, et.al have said; That,s why I used the other thread for filters;;trust them 100%, just never mentioned filters to them, because I only decided after reading your thread;Apologies penrhynThanks for the link:beer:thanksagain myser:beer:

    Hi Guys it,s me again;;;;Sorry to be a pain, BUT, I cannot grasp why my wireless signal from my router is showing excellent , constant at 54Mbps, yet speedtsests are showing erratic results;;;1;;1.1;;4.5;;4.3;;1.2 mbs;
    When I plug ethernet in, I get a regular 4.6/7.8/9mbs;
    Such a huge increase.;;Nothing is affecting my wireless signal, as it would show on the icon on the tray 54Mbps;;;router is 2 feet away from PC;;;;
    inSIDDER says no-one online by me;;;
    If PC wireless card is iffy, wouldn,t it show on the signal strength icon????
    If router was giving erratic signal output, wouldn,t this also affect signal stregnth icon 54Mbps,make it go down and up???
    Just trying to get to grips why wireless is so erratic, and so slower than ethernet, irrespective of router;
    Everything wireless in the house is unplugged, dect phone, doorbell??that,s wireless;:(

    Your Wi-Fi throughput can be affected by other factors. You are always going to achieve a higher throughput using an Ethernet connection.

    Have you scanned your computer using SpyBot (Search & Destroy)?

    Try uninstalling any firewall software and anti-virus. You can use Microsoft Security Essentials instead.

    You may want to read up about MTU and check the value for your Wi-Fi adapter.

    Hi, myser, I have been on pc all day since 9 am.;;Just made tea, 15-20 mins, pc idle and it,s just logged itself off again;;disconnected from the net;;Had to press on/off button, enter password, back on again, same as last night;;;
    RUN spybot/malwarebytes. avast/ every day without fail;;;no infection;always have done;;;;I know ethernet will always give better speeds and more consistant than wireless.;;;However, the wireless speed should not be so erratic and up to 3meg below ethernet;;;
    If it was 1>2meg and constant, I could understand it;;;But to jump about from 1>4.9 max ever achieved, within seconds of last speedtest, cannot be right;;;Even a dunce like me knows something is affecting it;;;;BUT WHAT??????IF the wifi adapter in the pc is iffy, wouldn,t that show on the signal strength icon???ps;;; used MSE before, made no difference;;;I think I,ve tried about everything, and I honestly believe this new router that,s coming, isn,t going to solve it;;;;

    Wireless (RF) is a peculiar concept! If your laptop or router are positioned in a particular spot, the signal can destructively interfere and you see a poorer signal. The environment (e.g. obstacles causing reflections) will affect Wireless signal propagation.

    A slight movement of either your laptop or router may move it from a null (poor signal location) to a peak (good signal location). It is all dependent on your environment.

    Have you managed to compare your MTU size?
