    Hi Guys ; Thanks very much, just took wife to the station, logged off again;;;I,m using chrome at present, AOL browser is still logged off;;;;:mad:
    How do I know tt is llu;;;as you can see. aol, says it,s llu.
    same company?????
    Have to do a bit of thinking, not too long though;;;;pi
    d off with it;
    Got plenty of patience, 6 years is perhaps long enough.:D
    I,ll give TT a ring, see what they offer;;;40GB should do me??
    You seem happy with TT gunjack? can I be rude and ask what speed you get? :(
    Thanks again everyone, much appreciated;;;;

    Don't do it. TalkTalk are AOL so more of the same and you will be tied in for another minimum term even if they do give you another useless router!

    You have excellent options available to choose from, so SWITCH, SWITCH, SWITCH and experience the internet as it should be!

    joe, aol having LLU in your exchange doesn't mean you've been on that system - LLU refers to moving your phone line OFF the BT kit in the exchange and ONTO the LLU provider's kit. As you are still paying your line rental to BT, you are NOT on the LLU service, you are on aol's "standard" IPStream connection - as I explained to you earlier in the thread, this means you're getting bb from aol thrugh the BT kit, and are subject to the same issues as BT and other IPStream customers of many other ISPs.

    If you move to LLU, the service is as standard with pretty much all ISPs, ADSL2+ up to 24Meg downloads. As we established earlier, with your line stats you would sync around 16-18 Meg. Put your downstream attenuation into this calculator and you'll see what we mean:-

    http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/max_speed_calc.php

    Although aol have been bought out by TT, the two systems are not yet fully integrated yet, so going to TT LLU would put you direct onto the TT DSLAM/MSAN in the exchange and onto their system.

    You'd get similar performance from sky LLU if you went down that route, especially if you get it half price through a relative.

    In terms of download limits, 40GB is a lot, I've never been anywhere near going over it. Sky has unlimited downloads.

    Personally, I'm an ex-tiscali customer, who benefitted when TT took over, as I got ADSL2+ by being migrated onto the TT MSAN in my exchange. On my 50dB line I sync at 7 meg @3dB. Check it out in the kitz calculator, and with me tweaking my snrm down I get as good/slightly better than the estimate, Overall I'm pretty happy with TT, no major issues after getting a line fault cleared (which would have been there whichever ISP I was on).

    To sum up, if it was me, I'd have moved onto a LLU service years ago, given the options on your exchange. I'm NOT plugging talktalk, ANY LLU provider would do you better. The choice is yours :)

    did you know you don't need to use AOL's browser to access your e-mails ??? Just open chrome, go to aol.co.uk, log in on the site and you'll be able to use your e-mail.

    The AOL software you've installed on your machine could itself be the issue - they include all sorts of !!!! in it, which can do these sort of things, including slowing down your machine and burgering up connections. And guess what????.. YOU DON'T ACTUALLY NEED ANY OF IT !!!!!
    Hi gunjack;;;;If only;;;the main reason I stayed was so I didn,t need to tell everyone my new e-mail;;;Hate change;;;;;When I wiped pc a few months age, and did factory restore, I lost aol e-mail;;;rang them , useless, thats when she said didn,t support router;;;Didn,t want one;;she passed me to SALES:mad: He told me what you,ve just said, a pain;;;rang back, asked for aol,s latest version ;downloaded it;;reset password umpteen times:D after 40 minutes I,d got aol,s browser on + e-mail;;;ok
    Just treid logging into e-mail via chrome;;;wrong password;;;:D went to reset, security , asked my name a/c holder.;;;wrong name;;; and I,ve got it written down, sign on every day.....IS IT ME? or is the world gone mad;;;;Was going to uninstall aol and use chrome for mail;;;;That,s scuppered that, and I ain,t phoning to reset PW .....don,t know what they are playing at;;;;I,m not who they say I am;;don.t know my own bl---y name now,:rotfl: Am I really on this blog or is it my imagination?
    My son,s a Shrink, I think I,ll give him a ring:rotfl: Probably don,t know me either;;;You got to laugh, or end up pulling hair out.:eek:

    whilst espresso is rightin that tt and aol are now the same company, there's a world of difference between AOL on IPStream service (bad) and TalkTalk on full LLU (actually pretty good).

    However, I agree that you should switch to any* LLU provider and get a far better service that you currently get......

    I'm not aware of any old AOL customers that have not effectively been migrated onto TalkTalk LLU broadband, if it exists on the exchange.

    NO ISP is allowed to migrate a phone line away from BT onto LLU unless the customer has specifically requested it. If you check back in the thread, joe is still paying BT for his line rental, ergo he's still on the aol IPStream product.

    If an aol customer was on LLU before the takeover by tt, then yes, there has been a program of rationalisation as was with ex-tiscali customers, moving lines onto the tt MSAN, WHERE THERE WAS CAPACITY ON THE EXISTING TT MSAN FOR IT TO HAPPEN I had to wait a while before my tiscali line was moved over, as TT had to increase capacity within their MSAN in my exchange before they could bin the old tiscali DSLAM.

    I am TT essentials with unlimited calls boost. Have been for probably 4 years or so. We have 3 PCs , 1 game machine, 1 laptop, and 3 smart phones in the house all wireless. When doing speedtests I usually get around 6MBS and regularly see spikes over 8MBS. Only use about10/40 of download limit.

    I went through a bad patch 18 months ago when the kids bedrooms either couldn't get wireless or were repeatedly kicked off. We were on G routers/dongles at the time. The main house PC was OK.

    It coincided with my neighbour getting a new BT homehub, I tried selecting different channels etc with no difference it was if the home hub was swamping us.

    I upgraded to an N router and N dongles in the bedrooms. Problem resolved. I presume they have a stronger more resilient signal.

    Just recentlyTT have being trying to push me to their premium package, which I don't need. However I did read that the essentials BB is liable to throttling whereas their premium service isn't. Recently I have noticed my line speed is much more variable - don't know if that is just a coincidence.

    If you do go TT make sure you take their annual line rental offer.

    I did state broadband not phone line and although he still pays line rental to BT the broadband can be connected to the LLU equipment. This has happened in all cases that I know about and this is when their problems really started.

    Hi Grizzly, thanks, I was dubious about moving my line from BT, but probably will. Essentials will do me, as long as I don,t go from frying pan to fire, if they are throttling;;;got that now;;;:beer:
