re-signal strength

Options
Hi, Can anyone explain to me please how I can get 3 varied signal strength ratings of 36;;48;;54;; Yet the ratings of all 3 are poor;;;fair;;;good ;;excellent?
every time I hover over strength icon, it will show 36, poor/fair/good/excellent, and same with higher strengths.
surely if I get excellent on 36mbs, how can I get poor on 48;;54 and all the others??
My bb speed is varying from 0.5mbs to 4mbs and variations in between every time I do a speedtest, like a yoyo, Repeated tests, one directly after the other;; logged onto g in router.when I say 4mbs, that,s a rarity, usually sub 1.5>0.5mbs

Are you sure that the 36, 48 and 54 are in units of mb/s (or even MB/s). It would be unusual to express ~signal strength~ in those units.

It would not be unusual to express signal strength in units of -dB, in which case -36dB is a much higher signal strength than -48dB.

If you want to get an idea of the signal strength you could download iSSIDer, it will show you any other wirelss signals that could be interfering with yours.
If you could post your router line statistics we could bench mark your connection to t'internet.

penrhyn is probably smack on with this, it's looking like wifi interference. Especially following on from your previous thread about your varying speed, inssider and changing wifi channels is the way to go next. If there's no close channel interfering with yours, then it could be the wifi card in your lappy is in need of updated drivers, or just isn't too hot, same for the areials. Mini-Gun #2's wifi card/areial combo is a bit like that - ended up disabling the onboard and using a usb wifi adapter instead.

penrhyn, I got him into his router on his last thread, so he should be able to get the line stats no probs ;)

Partially, looks like you are running with a 6.9Mbps link, which is pretty good.

Look back at my Kitz link, its the noise margin that wee need to find.

Anyhoo, any joy looking for interfering wireless channels.
