  • Very funny attitude to your neighbours... but you said they knocked on your door with a neighbours parcel and you would refuse it.

    Very strange behaviour.

No. What I actually said was: " "Well, deliver it to them then - you're the one paid to store and deliver it, not me" "

I don't think they asked me "Why" at any point.
  • As i say - very strange behaviour on your part.
  • As i say - very strange behaviour on your part.

Why? Was the parcel for me? No. I'd assume that someone paid to professionally deliver parcels would not just assume some random stranger, living in the same street, would be in a position to take in a parcel, store and deliver it later on, on their behalf. That's 'strange' and somewhat negligent in my view.

Suppose I was some local thug who hated them and they were too scared to come and ask for it? Suppose my house was full of squatters who would happily steal it?

Seriously - what is odd about challenging someone with that little respect for somebody else's property?
  • To all the people who complain that their drivers didn't leave their parcel with their wonderful neighbours who would gladly take it in for them, I refer you to QuackQuack.

I have just had my first taste of the Hermes treatment. I bought an item on amazon and when it didnt turn up after the delivery deadline I contacted the seller who gave me the tracking number. I had never heard of Hermes so googled that and put in my info. My parcel is currently sat at the status 'stolen parcel'. I am assuming that if you go to the bother of adding a stolen status then it is an everyday thing. No-one from Hermes seems to have tried to notify either me or the seller. The parcel was given to the courier at 10.51 and at 11.20 it was listed as stolen. I have emailed them but I am not expecting much to come back.

    As expected, not much:

Today I also had my first dealings with Hermes (never heard of them before either). I had parcels to be returned to Debenhams online (whose customer service is rubbish) booked for last Saturday and they turned up at my door today. I said politely and non-argumentatively that I was expecting them last Saturday and he just said "returns are free of charge" picke up my parcel and gave me a proof of pick up receipt and just walked out the door leaving it wide open!
  • I bought an item off Amazon on Friday, and Hermes was the courier. The parcel came today, 4 days before the estimated delivery date.

This was my first experience with the company, and in my opinion I got an excellent service.

I have to say our courier is excellent. I have also used Hermes to deliver items and never had a problem. I have a parcel being collected tomorrow so I hope I haven't jinked mysef

My local Hermes 'agent' comes in a beaten up old car (probably without relevant insurance - or even an MOT by the look of it)

    And you know that how?
and usually has a mate in the car smoking. Most of the goods they have delivered to me smell of cigarette smoke. It's grim - especially when it's clothing they are delivering.

Nonsense. Cigarette smoke does not go through plastic. It is nothing to do with you who he has in his car.
I've often had them bang on the door and say "I've got a parcel for three doors down" to which I reply "Well, deliver it to them then - you're the one paid to store and deliver it, not me"

What have your neighbours said about that? The couriers don't get paid to store it. I hope you have told all your neighbours to never help you out.
I can't believe that Amazon have started to use them. I must confess that local experience with them is so poor, I think twice before buying from anyone know to use them. A list of major online retailers that use them would make this so much simpler.

Most delivery agents and couriers are pretty good and decent and have excellent standards - but Hermes tend to go against the grain.

Most of them, so best of luck with your faux boycott.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark
