    Courtesy of fore-warning???

You think we should write a letter asking if it's ok if we move in with a disabled child?

I can just see it now on the estate agents details...............:rotfl:

Now we both know that is silly comment, if you know you live in a narrow road with a bus or anything else that restricts traffic at time when people want to get in and out for work, school runs etc a polite word with other residents would not hurt.

The same way you would out of pure good manners warn if works impacting on them or having party with noise that may annoy.............though good manners seem to be in the decline these days and everyone is me me me .
I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.

No - it is not the parent of the disabled child/ren who are "inconveniencing" their neighbours - people are being asked to just give a few minutes of their day to make life easier for those parents who have disabled children 24/7. Is that really too much to ask of people? Respect the job that these parents/carers do? Is that really too much to ask - let alone expect?

If so, we really do deserve all that we get :(

    To quote John Donne :-

....No man is an island, entire of itself...any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."...............

the neighbour hasnt been asked. its been demanded of her with no consideration of her circumstances whatsoever.

An interesting point ....I live on a relatively narrow road, with no neighbours of school-age children at this end of the road. However, the school bus now runs along this road .....should someone have written apologising for this fact to me? It means that I can't get out of my drive at 8.42am as it is negotiating its way along the road - and what about when it returns in the afternoon? Who should have notified me? The parents? The school? The bus company? The LEA that authorises the bus? Am I entitled to compensation???

    Absolutely bumkum!!!

Goodness me - perhaps every time a household has a Mr T/Mr S/Ocado delivery, each house on the road should be written to just in case they have to [horror of horrors] wait a few minutes or drive a little on the pavement to get past...oh I see, it's only disabled kids we have a problem with, those delivery trucks are fine.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

do contain your hysteria or i shall have to fetch the doctor to give you the vapours.

does the school bus stop for ten minutes and prevent you from getting into/leaving your house?

look at another analogy - should you have a delivery of something that will block the road for longer than a few minutes, at a time when your neighbours will be requiring use of the road, then it is polite to let them know that it will be happening so they can make other arrangements and be prepared. it is absolutely out of order to not do this. obviously some believe a disability means that you dont need to show any courtesy to those you inconvenience!

could you point out where someone has said that? or are you just making stuff up? labelling others as being haters of the disabled with absolutely no evidence just makes reasonable people see you for what you are.

Erm, it didn't stop her, she would just have to drive on the pavement for a bit. It's a disabled kid we are talking about here - who is going to school. Hardly blocking the street off for 10 minutes which regularly happens once a fortnight when the bins are emptied. Oh, it's only disabled kids we have a problem with. I keep forgetting.

Maybe when the OP moved in (she does say in the first post they have lived there several years)...she didn't know that one of her children would be disabled?

When that happens to you...trust me...visiting your neighbours & informing them your little bundle of joy may not be what you quite expected isn't exactly top of your priority list.

When you're a parent of a disabled child, you don't actually expect anyone to cut you any slack (from my experience you're too busy dealing with the whole package to think about it)......when someone does, it's a pleasant surprise.

What you don't expect to get is a mouthful of abuse for daring to exist.

its blocking the street off for ten minutes every morning.

it did stop her. quite obviously.

did you read the op, or did you just decide that everyone was attacking disabled kids?
