I have a nasty feeling that its not possible to downgrade from the mid to the base package. You do get 40Gbdownload allowance on the mid package. The speed you get is dependent on a number of factors, distance from the exchange, line noise, internal extension wiring etc.
There may be ways of improving your speed however.
The first thing to do is to plug your router into the test socket that can be found by unscrewing the faceplate of your master socket and see if you get an improvement.

OK here are my router stats:
Modem
ADSL Firmware Version A2pB018e.d16f
Modem Status Connected
DownStream Connection Speed 2048 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 416 kbps
VPI 0
VCI 38
I guess I'm just disappointed I don't get more than the minimum of 2Mb.
Does this help?0 -
Hi, your upload speed is much better than mine!
If you look at the bottom of the router status page you will see a router stats button click on this and it will show you your line attenuation and noise margin, the noise margin figure should be 7db or higher.
If its around 7db then there are a number of things you can try.
Have a look here:

There is a nice little program you can use to monitor your router here

How do you get to your router status page?0
-
You go to:
http://192.168.0.1/
Put in your login and password. The default is admin and sky.
This takes you to the NetGear settings page. Then choose Router Status from the Maintenance menu on the left of the page.
The click on the Sky Test button and when that's done click on the Show Statistics button.0 -
Relieved to hear some positive stories here!
I requested Sky BB on the Mid package in September. They let us know when it was available in our area and quickly gave us an activation date of 8th November and sent out the router.
On 8th of November our old provider stopped working but no Sky. Sky said there was a problem with tied pairs at the exchange and it would be fixed very soon. I phoned every couple of days and they kept on implying we'd be back online within days. After 3 months offline and lots of conflicting stories and blame directed at BT I gave up and cancelled at the beginning of this month.
Despite having cancelled them we came home to a message on our answer machine last Friday saying that our (5th) activation date would be yesterday.
After nearly 4 months offline were were connected yesterday!
We're going to stick with it because the new provider we had instructed still didn't expect to connect us until mid March and I can't bear to be offline any longer + it's cheaper.
There were a few problems yesterday (kept on losing connections) but after fiddling around with the router settings and replacing all our microfilters with the ones Sky sent it seems to have been fine.
Last night (after being connected all day) Sky phoned again to say that we should be activated within a week!0
