I am unsure what to do, as ntl freedom is changing to VIRGIN MEDIA who say that they will be providing 'digital TV, broadband, phone and mobile' and so very soon they may be offering a package similar to sky.

However, I have found sky tv to be very reliable over the years and who knows how the virgin media digital tv will perform!

I'm on the Sky Mid package about 2.5 km from the exchange.
The only problem I get is the odd drop of connection in the evening.

Is the 'odd drop' of connection frequent and becoming a nuisance? It is the Sky mid package I am looking at and am very tempted. How long have you had Sky BB and did you have any problems changing from your former ISP and connecting?

Not much of a nuisance occurs around 7pm when the line gets noisy, it might be my extension cable though, wireless adapter is on the way.
I've been up and running since the 28th December, unfortunately that was after 3 months of hell due to a combination of Sky/BT incorrectly migrating me from Orange, and a tie pair problem in the exchange.
My neighbour has just gone onto the base package and it took 3 weeks from order to activation with no problems.

That is the first worry isn't it - the move, about how smoothly the transfer goes. After that of course it is the performance, especially when you have a 12 month contract!
  • I ordered Sky BB MID package a few weeks ago and gave them my migration code (from BT). I received the router and other equipment within a few days, and was sent a letter saying I would go live on the 31st January.

On the 31/01/07 my BT connection stopped working, so I connected the sky router - however I have been unable to get a connection since, with the internet light on my router failing to light up. I have called sky technical support (who don't seem too helpful) and they can't do anything as my line should be active - however after complaining further, they said engineers would look into it. So basically I am without any connection at the moment (since 31st) as BT has stopped while sky has not been activated properly.

The only thing I can do is wait (it will take up to 5 working days!) to see what the sky engineers come up with...

For TV I am with sky, paying £15 a month for 2 packages. If I joined the SKY package for TV,BROADBAND, AND SKY TALK, I would pay £26 a month (£5 extra for all time calls). Not only that, I would get 6 sky packages for TV in the price - normal 6 sky package price £21 a month!

Forgive me if I'm being ignorant, but I've always wondered whether it is actually a "package deal"? The "package" includes 8mg broadband (MID), sky TV 6 mixes and SKY TALK (free evening w/end calls) for £26.

If you bought those separately, it would be £5 for the BB and £21 for the TV, coming to £26. So is the only real advantage in taking this package the free Sky talk (evening and weekend calls)? If so it's not really a great bundle "package deal" because many providers offer an equivalent to "sky talk" free of charge anyways (eg primus).

Hope somone can clear this up....thanks

    ultracheapskate,
I know that quote taken on its own is odd - what I was explaining was my situation at the moment:

NTL FREEDOM - £24.99 sometimes more if dial mobile or 0870 number etc
    sky tv - £15.00 for 2 mixes
    Total £39.99

If I takes sky package offer at £26 - I save £13.00 a month plus 6mixes sky are included. If I take the sky talk anytime option for £5 extra I still save £8.99 a month.

As it is my ntl freedom is averaging 27.00 a month - and that is only for broadband and phonecalls.
  • Hi TOBRUK. I understand you were referring to your current situation and how you would save money. My post wasn't specifically aimed at you!

I was just referring to sky's bundle deal, because when you break it down into the individual parts, there isn't much of a saving. Normally a bundle deal would imply it is cheaper by taking all 3 optons bundled together, rather than buying each one individually - which isn't strictly the case with sky. I guess their broadband is so cheap (relatively speaking), that they can't afford to subsidise the cost of TV.

I see, that's fine, I just thought you had misunderstood. I wasn't aware that you could get sky talk unless you had sky tv.
