    ultracheapskate,
I know that quote taken on its own is odd - what I was explaining was my situation at the moment:

NTL FREEDOM - £24.99 sometimes more if dial mobile or 0870 number etc
    sky tv - £15.00 for 2 mixes
    Total £39.99

If I takes sky package offer at £26 - I save £13.00 a month plus 6mixes sky are included. If I take the sky talk anytime option for £5 extra I still save £8.99 a month.

As it is my ntl freedom is averaging 27.00 a month - and that is only for broadband and phonecalls.

Or if you stuck with just your current 2 mixes, it would be even less, wouldn't it? That's what I'm thinking of doing. Like many on this thread, I'm at the end of my Orange (formally Wannadoo) contract and thinking of switching to Sky. But I'd be a totally new sky customer as I've never managed to justify the expense of Sky TV before. I make it £15 for two mixes, £5 for the broadband, plus the free sky talk (as I'd be a sky TV customer too now, I'd be eligible). I'll probably pay the extra £5 for the unlimited talk too, bringing total price up to £20. (Incidentally, the mobile or 0870 extra costs you are paying currently will still have to paid on top of the sky bundle, because those aren't included with sky either.)
So is the only real advantage in taking this package the free Sky talk (evening and weekend calls)? If so it's not really a great bundle "package deal" because many providers offer an equivalent to "sky talk" free of charge anyways (eg primus).
ultracheapskate, no I don't think there is any advantage at all in the '£21 bundle' as the free sky talk is available for any sky TV customer, not just those taing out this package. It's just an attention-grabbing headline rate (and that worked for me!) but offers no advantage to getting all separately.

I don't think you can, the offer for sky customers is £26 for the bundle - I don't believe you can change the number of mixes of this offer to make it cheaper. I don't know if it is different for new sky customers, I have been with sky over 8 years.

As I am with ntl freedom for broadband and phone calls (24.99 plus) and on top paying £15 for sky tv (for 2 mixes) it is tempting to go with sky package and saving between £10-15 a month, with also having another 4 mixes in the price.

I used to have the 6 mixes until last year before reducing, but there are a handful of chanels I have missed.
  • I am a complete novice at all this. I currently have a BT package for internet (option2) plus my normal phone package (I think it is also option 2 which I am not sure what advantage this is as I seem to pay extra for callminder). Because I have a BT home hub with a normal phone connected to it I get free evening and weekend calls to landlines. However, this whole thing is costing me £64 per month whiich includes all our phone calls (plus £13 on homehub last quarter for other calls). This seems a lot to me when the Sky package is only £26 plus - they state - £11 per month for BT landline. I got my home hub free because BT had messed me about when my old router failed.
Would I be better off with the Sky package or is there something I have missed? Or is it just my family ringing people on their mobiles (grrrr) which is making it so expensive.
If I change to another package will I have to change my email address? I have business cards but I got them from Vistaprint so could get new ones reasonably cheaply.

Crumbs! £64 a month is pretty high - have you looked at your statements to work out if you are charged extra for mobiles, sorry don't know anything about BT phone deals. I have ntl for broadband and calls at £24 a month, however, if I make a call to a mobile or to a 0870 number for example I am charged extra.

With regard to email address - if I make a change from ntl to sky I would have to change the address as the end of the address is ntl.com.

I would just have to send an email about change of address to the people in the email address book - that is a minor thing, especially if you save money!

I've done something similar. I was with Sky digital TV already, paying £18 for 4 mixes. I ordered the £5 mid broadband package, and on top of that the £5 unlimited sky talk. So in total I am paying £28 for TV, unlimited calls and broadband.

However the only downside has been the broadband so far. My activation date was set for 31.01.07 but I still have not been connected - so I have been without internet for 5 days now (and counting!), as my BT no longer works either.

I think you can (of course if you want to is a different matter). Just call up sky and order the mid broadband package for £5 (and the unlimited sky talk for £5 if you want). You don't have to take out their bundle deal, and rather can order each component separately. So you would be paying £15 for TV, plus £5 for broadband, plus an optional £5 for unlimited sky talk. Would be saving £6 per month, if you took out 2 rather than all 6 mixes.

Thank you for the information ultracheapskate, I shall have a look at that and think about it - I wonder if you can choose that online? When you apply online you get £10 towards your account which is also a plus.
  • I had problems ordering broadband online. Kept saying that the "shop was temporarily unavailable"! I had no choice but to order it over the telephone. Hope you have better luck!
  • well i hope ultracheapy has better luck than i did as i moved house a month ago signed up with sky for broadband and a month later gave up on their inability to get the connection working after numerous calls to them with none received back.In the end i decided to go with bt who got me connected within a week after 2 visits by bt engineers.
