Sky Broadband (merged)

Hi all.
First time poster here, so please be gentle
I have trawled the forums, but can't seem to find an answer to my query.
I'm currently nearing the end of my twelve month agreement with Orange (ex Wanadoo) and am tempted by the free Sky offer, but am slightly nerved by the number of people who have gone weeks without access during the transfer.
Question. Can I leave my Orange account active until the Sky account is running, or must I transfer or cancel, then activate Sky ?
Also, if a current Sky BB customer could tell me how the billing works (eg, is this part of your Sky TV direct debit, or separate?) This is important to me, as I have all my DD's going out during a particular five day period in the month.
Your assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks !

if you migrate over using a MAC, then there shouldn't be any waiting involved... but if you're on an orange LLU exchange, then you won't be be to migrate...0

Get your MAC code from wanadoo and sign up to sky broadband thru quidco(get £50).I did this on dec 4th last year (tho i was with aol) and i was live with sky on the 14th
Most people have an hassle free transfer and so far sky's service has been simply great!.No caps, traffic shaping etc0 -
Thanks for this.
Orange have told me I am on an LLU exchange, so there's no real benefit of seeing the contract through, I may as well just give them the 30 day notice, and speak with Sky about getting connection sorted for that date.
Am I correct ?0 -
If you go for the mid or max packages from Sky then the £5 or £10 per month is simply added to your existing Sky account. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Steve999, does Quidco work for broadband for existing TV customers? Description on Quidco implies new customer only.

I went live yesterday with Sky, and it has been absolutely superb. Router worked straight away with nothing to install, and download speeds are about 4.5Mb which is what they said they would be. I'm well pleased! Especially as I am getting Sky TV, Free Evening Calls and a wireless router for £4 more than I was paying to TalkTalk for 512Kb.0

From this I take it that you are happy with SKY BROADBAND package and have had no problems. I am trying to decide whether or not to change to SKY.
I am currently with NTL FREEDOM, who are being taken over by virgin and will be called VIRGIN MEDIA - taking over ntl Freedom, Virgin Mobile, ntl and Telewest.
I have been thinking of changing provider for a long time as I am paying £24 a month for ntl broadband with anytime calls (very often monthly bill is higher because of calls to 0870 or mobiles). Did think of TALK TALK until I read so much about the problems and the item on 'Watchdog'!
For TV I am with sky, paying £15 a month for 2 packages. If I joined the SKY package for TV,BROADBAND, AND SKY TALK, I would pay £26 a month (£5 extra for all time calls). Not only that, I would get 6 sky packages for TV in the price - normal 6 sky package price £21 a month!
I know the speed for this package is 8mb but at the moment my NTL FREEDOM is up to 2mb! I have read that some think that their 8mb with sky isn't up to scratch.
From looking at just the cost I would be saving £10 a month (if paying extra £5 a month for all day calls option) so can anyone tell me from their sky broadband experience if it is worth me going for it and hoping that I don't regret it as I would be stuck for 12 months!
Any advice would be very much welcomed. Anyone regret moving to sky broadband???0 -
Although I've only been live for 2 days now, so far it had been nothing short of a superb service in every aspect (TV, Broadband, Installation). The only thing that ets it down was the lack of a letter with a live date, but that could have been lost in the post or something.0

Thank you for that rooo, and your quick response.
Can I ask what sky tv package you were on before (unless you were with someone else) and who was your ISP before taking on sky broadband?
As things are now I do find ntl freedom is reliable, although sometime in the past I had problems and they customer service I had to deal with was awful and extremely expensive (for the phonecalls!) when I haven't had a problem it has been fine. I just think taking the whole package sky are offering I would be better off financially plus have more channels to flick! Ha!0 -
I was on Freeview before, and had the offer not been around I would not even have considered getting Sky TV. But at £20 a month plus a free wireless router - it was a bit of a no brainer.
My broadband was TalkTalk - I was with them for about 2 years, but did not want to have to go on to a new 18 month contract with them just to upgrade from my 512kb (£16 per month) connection. Also it was almost impossible to get to speak to anyone when my broadband went down for a week unless I paid 50p per minute! I just felt that there was no loyalty to me as a customer.0
