  • And I should add that I connected by plugging in the router and entering the WPA key and away I went. No way was I putting in the installation CD for it to install all the rubbish and links that comes with it - particularly McAfee!!

@ irisrose - No it does not change your favourites or browser. Just plug it in and your away.

should get sky BB early march when we're out of contract with BT! getting the unlimited £10pm package! and should get 12 and 1/2mb speed :D so happy, we got charged so much by BT for excess download this is perfect even with BT making their packages unlimited sky still £10pm at least cheaper!

Ask them to check the speed available on your line first. Mine showed I could only get 512k even though I'm only a couple of miles from the exchange.
  • hey hadlock. I still have no connection since my activation date of 31st January. Sky's technical support is almost non-existent, as they all seem to give the same (very helpful advice) - "wait a few more days".

Apparently they referred the problem to level 3 tier support last Friday, and they guaranteed I would receive a response within 5 working days. Surprise, surprise and I never received a call back. I spoke to technical support today, who told me to keep tight, and wait a little longer - apparently I they have placed my problem under "high priority".

I spoke to BT (previous provider), and according to them my broadband is still active. According to them I should still be receiving internet from them as the tags have not been removed (although i cannot connect via BT). I told sky this and pointed out that they hadn't carried out the migration properly - the lady sounded confused, before my call was terminated!

I think with sky BB it depends on luck. Those who are connected quickly don't seem to have much problems. However if you're unlucky, you will experience significant teething problems...

It is the teething problems I am worried about if I decide to change ISP. I think if you have a problem whoever you are with, the customer support is awful. I am with NTL FREEDOM which works very well and is fairly reliable, but when I have had a problem in the past their customer and technical support is appalling (in my experience) and not only that ended up with a massive phone bill!

My fear is that if I switch I will have problems and end up having no connection for a time, plus paying £££'s trying to sort it out because of the phone charges!

I am very tempted to switch to sky - one minute I am going for it and the next I am not!

I'm having trouble getting connected to Sky broadband. They seem to think that we already have some sort of broadband connection on our DN (directory number she said).

I've spoken to BT and they said our line is clear.
I spoke to sky straight after and they said that that's all fine and they would put the order through again.

That was a couple of weeks ago.

I rang yesterday to find out what was the delay and she said that the application had been rejected, she would have to refer it to a manager and they would get back to me.

So I call today to see how it's going and she said, that on my notes it says the matter is closed!!!!

The girl today was actually far more helpful and talked me through it all. Although I have now had to re-ring and re-apply for a sky broadband connection.
Now it's sit back and wait to see if it was a glitch that made it go wrong, or if there really is a problem.

Has anyone encountered anything similar??? or is it just me?

Thank you cd02 for the positive feedback as I am wondering whether or not to go to them. There are so many stating that they are having problems, it is good to hear the positives.

After looking for a while through this forum as well as another it seems to me that a lot of it is down to luck!

My mum has just had a letter to say that she can now receive Sky Broadband. She will just be using the Base option.

I intend to install it for her but as I have cable broadband can someone fill me in as to what will be required? She has a laptop which does not have Wi-Fi but does have an ethernet card.

What is supplied in the way of router and micro filters? Where should the micro filters go?
