If the staff don't want a public bollocking then perhaps they should do their jobs properly?
That's a shocking thing to say.
Nobody deserves a 'public bollocking' (regardless of what they've done or not done) and any employer or superior who behaves in such a manner has no idea at all about managing staff.
I would have spoken up too.
I was once in a charity shop and someone from head office or a regional office was berating 2 old ladies publicly.
I listened and when she stopped to draw breath I stepped in and told her exactly how far out of order she was by conducting a dressing down in public, how disgraceful and disrespectful her attitude was to 2 senior (in age) volunteers and how she was clueless at managing people and didn't deserve volunteers to run the shop.
I ended by telling her that I regularly donated clothes, shoes and bric-a-brac to the shop and from now on I would be taking my stuff to a different charity and would be writing to her bosses to tell them exactly why.
She was a bully - nothing more.0 -
If the staff don't want a public bollocking then perhaps they should do their jobs properly? And again, perhaps the staff should do their jobs properly? For the third time, perhaps the staff should do their jobs properly?
Oh, I get you now - you're the sort of poster who just keeps repeating him/herself.0 -

Nobody is perfect but the boss / owner should know better. Utterly disgraceful behavior and well done for stepping in OP.
It's private property so you can try and go back, and they can throw you out again.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
If the staff did their jobs properly, there would be no need for any bollocking. Problem solved.
Considering the unprofessional, crass and amateur way the owner acted towards the staff in this case. It wouldn't take too much thinking to assume that the owners lack of managment skill could also lead to an issue in lack of staff training. This could have led to the staff making a mistake.
I would have struggled not to say something if I was there. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

If the staff made a mistake it is their fault and theirs alone.
Yes mighty Overlord, because you have never made a mistake in your life!
If my employer publicly embarrassed me I'd be handing my notice in straight away. Just because someone makes an error does not give anyone the right to give them a public dressing down.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -

Because you don't get a bollocking for being a model employee and doing your job correctly.0
