Got the morning off so I thought I'd take a trip to Newbank Garden Centre to have a look for some Christmas decorations.....love visiting this shop it's so pretty & I can easily spend a pleasant hour or two having a wander round.
The first thing I was greeted with when I walked into the place was two members of staff being reprimanded for not doing their job properly. I spent first five minutes or so of the visit listening to these poor women being very loudly & very publicly berated for doing a crap job....a very uncomfortable situation for the staff and customers :embarasse .
After the b*ll*cking had finished a customer approached the woman doing all the shouting and told her she thought she was out of order and very unprofessional to speak to her colleagues in such a manner especially in public , I voiced my agreement with this.
It was quickly pointed out to us that the two women were not her colleagues, she was the owner and they were 'her' staff, and that if we knew what they'd done (by this point we did know what they'd done, I think the whole shop knew!) we'd understand her actions.
I told her I disagreed and that nothing warranted the way she had spoken to them in public so she threw me & the other lady out of the shop for causing a scene.....oh the hypocrisy!
Just wondering now if I'm permanantly banned or what as I was planning on taking the littlies to see their christmas displays at the weekend :rotfl:?!

That's how everybody talks to each other in Radcliffe...
(unless there's more than one)0 -
That doesnt sound like the owner I knew - Mary Botham or something. I sometimes see her in my local - unless she has no involvement anymore!0

There is more than 1 Newbank Garden Centre however0 -
It is the Newbank in Radcliffe & if Mary Botham is a slightly plump lady with blond hair in a bob then it was her!0

Ahh it would appear that Mary Botham is totally innocent..... going off info I can find on Google the culprit is possibly a Mrs Bottomley.0

I would have done exactly the same thing as you did, even if I knew beforehand I would get chucked out.
Very unprofessionalmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Nothing worse than a boss who likes to belittle staff in front of customers. I had one who did it a few times when I worked part time. I waited until said Boss did it to me again with a shop full of customers and told him that was the last time he spoke to me like that and he could shove his job. I picked up my coat and walked, much to the amusement of the customers, who I add followed me out.
I got the last laugh, I called the owner, explained what had happened and how this particular person was a liar and downright lazy (he'd often go and sleep upstairs!). She checked the CCTV and confirmed everything I'd told her. He was unemployed by the end of the month and the shop closed down. As for me, the owner gave me a glowing reference.0 -
If the staff don't want a public bollocking then perhaps they should do their jobs properly?
if you want to give staff members a bollocking they this should be down in a back office away from customers. have you not heard of tribunals. a staff member can report the incident as you have humiliated them in public and with witnesses you would not have a leg to stand on.0
