  • Paid a full payment to stepchange yesterday so we're back on track.

Hope we get to peg out this weekend.:D

    Xx

Glad you managed a full payment to Stepchange - I bet it was a relief.

I have checked the weather forecast for Suffolk and it's not looking good today for pegging out - tomorrow should be better.

I have so much washing though that I will wash today and hang on the airer - I am going to get a new one as the one we have is a really old one we inherited and really we need more space.

All week I have been using the airer, DS makes me  sometimes. On Monday and Tuesday he finishes at lunchtime at college and comes home. I asked him to check the clothes on the airer and if they were dry to fold them in a pile and put some more clothes on the airer. Unfortunately DS is one of those lads who is highly intelligent but lacks common sense so following my instructions did not happen
When I got home and the same load was on the airer I asked him why, his reply was that he checked the airer and everything was dry but he couldn't remember what I said to do next so left them :rotfl:
So even though there was already a pile of dry washing by the airer and there was a basket full of wet washing also near the dryer he could not think what to do.
Never mind the fact he has a mobile phone and often texts me random questions about the most obvious thing - the one day he could have text me he didn't and so the washing didn't get dry:mad:

    I just keep :)!!!
  • As your diary is for all things related to washing please can I post a question to everyone....

Before I buy a new airer, what type of airer do you all have and is it any good?

    I have a gate airer http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/8505387.htm#
but it has only 2 gates as I inherited it from a relative but it's not big enough for a family of 4.

    Thanks

I use an old fashioned "sheila maid" which you hoist up with a pulley in our tiny utility room where our boiler is so everything dries really well. My neighbour doesnt have a utility room but uses an airer like mine attached upstairs on her landing. She has her w/m upstairs too and recklns it saves tome and effort not needing to bring bedding and clothes downstairs.

    Hi EE

    I use one of these...

    http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/8500179.htm

but had it years so don't think it cost me that much.

It dries the washing quite well and you can lay any thicker larger items (jeans, towels etc.) over two rails to dry them quicker but it does take up a lot of space (like most airers I guess).

I have considered getting a heated airer but I'm a bit concerned about the condensation it might generate. Maybe if I get one, I could just use it to get my washing fully aired after they have dried on my current airer overnight. At least I wouldn't have washing on the radiators then.

Any opinions on heated airers (especially in relation to condensation) would be gratefully received.

    Thanks.

Yeah I feel like we're back on track....financially anyway.

Kids eh, I have to leave very large notes on the side in the kitchen and I send a text if I want them to do any little jobs when they come home. Although when DS2 helped me yesterday put some things on the airers he folded everything in half instead of out flat. There was only a few things and loads of space, like you say EE they don't seem to have any common sense, hopefully that will come soon.:rotfl:

I have 2 wooden airers and a 4 fold gate type. Luckily I can actually hang things on hangers in the airing cupboard.

Dolphin, the heated airers come highly recommended, I tried to get one from @ldi last year but they'd sold out. If we used them to just 'finish' of drying the washing don't think condensation would be a problem.:)

Granny, that's a super fandangled one, puts my old wooden ones to shame. :rotfl:

  • Yesterday I spent £51 in sburys (got both sets of parents coming for Sunday dinner), £34 on DS3 school shoes and £10 on dog food.

Got money for bus, tuck and OHs football but that is it, no more spends until OH gets paid on Thursday.

Have prepared lunch and a cottage pie for tomorrow's tea. Still no housework done, got loads of washing dry so a mountain of ironing.

Feeling right p'd off if I'm honest, OHs ex had been in touch with him, nothing unusual as it was about the kids but then he said something about 'her knowing him so well' and she replied 'she knows he still loves her etc etc' to which he replied 2 smiley faces. He told me what he'd put and said it didn't mean anything. Well she doesn't know that does she and why put the smiley faces anyway. Yes they have a connection through the kids but that woman is poison. Why did he have to put the smilies couldn't he just of left it.gggggrrrrrr.

Of course he's acting the victim now and I've got to play happy families this afternoon.:o

Hope everybody else's Sunday is a lot calmer than mine, men men men, gggrrrr.

  • DFW said this about her heated airer on her thread last year -
It's really good! BUT you have to cover it over so it looks like a tent if you see what I mean. If you don't cover it the clothes take forever to dry just as a normal airer works. However if you cover it the clothes are dry overnight :) I have also started taking washing out of the washing machine, putting half back in and spinning it again and then doing the other half this way. I don't always do this but i've noticed on delicate washes it doesn't wring it out very much so i spin it again! Clothes come out nearly dry anyway then i'm sure ;)

It all seems quite positive especially the bit about it heating the room it's in

Oh Alice, I would be p'd off too. I hope you have made it clear how hurtful things like that are. If not, I would sit your DH down (after both sets of parents have gone) and make it quite clear how it makes you feel. Your DH may feel like it is unimportant but how can it be if it makes you feel so rubbish. :(

EE, thank you so much for the feedback and the link. :T

Sorry Alice did not see this before I posted - think we were posting at same time.

Men are so thoughtless sometimes - as you know my DH is also a !!!!! at times!!

I'm not sure if men mean what they put (ie smiley faces) or whether they don't consider the meaning of what they are putting and how women see it differently.

Take pokes on Facebook - I think this is a sign that someone is interested in you but DH says it is just a friend thing. It has caused numerous arguments so now DH does not poke back when he has been poked.
Too be honest if he does poke someone I'd be glad if they could take him off my hands instead of me putting up with him for ever:rotfl:

Do you have to play happy families this afternoon? I used to do the same then I changed tact and didn't play happy families and if someone asked what was wrong I would tell them. DH didn't like that so he soon bucked his ideas up!!!

Did DH tell you straight after he had done it or after you looked at his messages?
Part of me thinks ignore it he's a man and the other thinks why would he tell you if he thought he hasn't done anything wrong?? I know he has been down in the past - is this is a way to perk himself up because he thinks he has 2 ladies who like him/show him attention?!
