Go for it Aileen, you will never replace your old boy but having another poochy to fill in a small space in your heart can only be a good thing. When Ruaridh comes back there will be plenty love for all three. xxxIf you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

Well- nothing from the walking group. I don't know why, but I was hoping they'd find something-anything. But I am so grateful they tried.
We've been offered a JRT (I've had them in the past) puppy. She was the runt of the litter, and they said they can't sell her. Sean said we should take her, as Bruce loves other dogs and misses the company. Plus, I must admit she is adorable! We were up seeing her today -she's 4 weeks old, and I don't know what to do. I said 'but what about Ruars' he just said 'then, we'll have 3 dogs' I had a JRT when I got Ruars originally, and he thought of her as his mother until she went to the bridge 3 years ago.
I've got until the end of January to decide. I don't know what to do.
If I was you I'd take her. If nothing else, sod's law dictates that the minute you bring her home, Ruaridh will turn up!0 -
If you've got the time, space and funds to keep three dogs, then I would say "go for it" and get the Jack Russell (I take it that's a JRT?)Go for it Aileen, you will never replace your old boy but having another poochy to fill in a small space in your heart can only be a good thing. Friday-we've got the space, time and funds-we work, but we have a fab dog sitter-and my work is only 5 minutes across the road, and yes, she's a Jack Russell, we've premilinarily called her Zelda (long story)
Ali-My heart melted when I saw her, she's so tiny compared to her brother and sisters..but something held me back and the old boy was in my head the whole time:( Sean was in tears though because she was so gorgeous! He said if we get her, her and Bruce (our 7 month old Staffy) are getting GPRS collars.
Zaksmum-I know..and a part of me thought of that. I thought of how much he'd love her-he'd think it was his present for coming home. He loves other dogs..but he really adores JRTs.
I would hate anyone to think that we're 'replacing' Ruars..we're most definitely not. I want him home more than anything in the world, and I won't give up looking for him.Ruaridh Armstrong-missing since 05/11/11. Come home old boy-we miss you x
If you can't stand behind our troops, please feel free to stand in front of them.
I will respect your opinions, even if I don't agree with them0 -

Yes, how many times does that happen to people who have tried to have children then lose hope of having their own and adopt one? lol
We all know you won't ever give up trying to find Ruars as we will never give up hoping that you do. He has to be out there somewhere.0 -
I think you have to have Zelda and we all know that it is not a replacement for Ruars - even if he was home I reckon you would have been offered this pup, because you have experience of JRT's and because Ruars would have loved her.
Anyway, I always think it is a done deal once you have a name for them :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0 -
You can never replace a much loved dog. But I think it's like a tribute to them if you take another dog on, because you got so much joy from having them.
You have already managed two dogs. Room for another little one, surely? And when Ruaridh comes home he will love her as much as you will find yourself loving her. You have more than enough love to go round and you will be giving an unwanted little creature a safe and caring home.0 -
Hi all- I too have been following this thread since the beginning and think about Ruaridh all the time. I went for a run on Christmas Eve with my dog (photo on the greyhound thread if anyone wants a nosey) and he ran away. My husband is a better runner than me and he ran one way and me and Elvis (dog) went the other. Elvis got very distressed cos his pack had split up so I kept him on the lead for a while. Eventually I took him off the lead and he literally turned tail and shot off in the direction my husband had gone in. As you can imagine being a 6 year old greyhound he is VERY fast. I was on my knees, in the howling wind and rain in the mud SCREAMING for my dog who I last saw heading for the road that runs through the common. I rang my husband (thank GOD for mobiles) and thank all the deities Elvis had run straight to find him (across the main road *shudder*) and husband caught him (its weird as hes most definitely "my" dog). All the time I was hysterical in the mud I had Ruardh in my mind
It just goes to show how unpredictable they can be. Luckily my story had a happy ending but I have had Ruars on my mind more and more since then.
I also think you should get the JRT. She sounds DIVINE and as someone else said I think she would fill just a runt sized gap in your heart that Ruars left, and he really wouldnt mind- if she makes you feel a tiny bit better then he would be all for it, Im sure. And you must PROMISE that we'll get pics of Zelda.
Again Ruars is in my prayers (as are you) and I still hold out huge hope for good news xxHave nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.

Here's another vote for getting Zelda and no noone in their right mind would think you are replacing ruars.
If you want a recommendation for GPRS then I can throughly recommend the one by Garmin - you can look at the position of the GPRs using either a computer or by using the app that you can download onto your mobile.2014 Target;

I think you should take Zelda too.
Nobody will think you are trying to replace Ruars so don't feel guilty about that, hopefully he'll come home to a new friend.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140
