My elderly cat went missing on Bonfire night. We were actually away in our caravan and the neighbour was looking after the cats. He saw her in the garden under a bush, but she wouldn't come to him and so he left the conservatory door open for her and came back an hour later, she was nowhere to be seen although her sister was curled up on the sofa.

She was still missing when we returned the following day and all the following night when there were more fireworks.

At 7.00 am the following morning, my doorbell rang. It was my neighbour with the cat! She had been yowling outside our bedroom window (which adjoins the neighbour's bedroom window - (bungalows). I was up and in the living room so hadn't heard her, my husband was asleep in the bedroom, and also hadn't heard her, however, the neighbour had and went out and got her.

She was very hungry and limping on her back leg but otherwise OK. Neighbour delighted, so were we of course!

Her leg is now better - the vet said it was probably a sprain and gave her some Metacam, all OK now.

I have never signed a petition for firework sales to be regulated, but I do think it's a good idea. Limited to November 5th (or nearest Saturday), New Years' Eve, Diwali and Jewish New Year. I will sign next time one appears.

Haven't read the whole thread, but I hope the original dog mentioned did not suffer.

I posted this three years ago...just an update to say our one cat died peacefully eighteen months ago at the age of nineteen and her sister who is the one mentioned above has gone to live with my son in his flat and is almost 21. :T She is also now totally deaf, so the fireworks don't bother her any more :).

Hope everyone's animals are OK this year and remembering the original dog, the subject of this thread.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
  • I have just spent the entire afternoon reading this whole thread.... From start to finish...

So, so sorry to read that Rory didn't appear. Every time Sazzy posted I was sure he'd been found and had come home to his family. :( I hope he found a kind family who took him in and loved him and spoiled him, even if he never made it back to Sazzy.

I hate fireworks, my three cats are terrified of them. I also know of a couple of horses who have suffered injuries as a result of spooking due to the bl00dy things. One broke a leg in his field but was not found until the following morning.

We were riding on Fri and it was like a war outside with all the bangs. They're still settling the freaking things off now. Luckily the horse I was on didn't bat an eyelid but I've not always been so fortunate.

Years and years ago my Gran (in Glasgow) rescued a cat from a bunch of thugs who had it tied to a fence railing and were in the process of tying a firework to its tail. Little b*stards.

I have signed yet another petition this year to ban the private sale, s*d offending people. I simply cannot see why on earth they still sell them. Public displays only if we have to have them at all.

     ♥️ sending much love 💗
The years are passing so quickly but it seems like only yesterday that this beautiful boy was spooked by fireworks.
God bless all animals and hopefully one day noisey fireworks will be a thing of the past.

Our eldest cat sat on the window in the master bedroom of our house to watch the fireworks. She seemed to enjoy them although didn't like the very loud bangs (neither do I), we live on the side of a valley so she had a good view.
As they are indoor, ours aren't too bothered by the noise except for their first year of fire works although I do regret not checking on our youngest. Whilst he is 2, he is a rescue and we don't know a lot about him, although if he was with our middle 2, they do enjoy comfort in numbers.
May you find your sister soon Helli.
    Sleep well.
