4 years, and it seems like yesterday. I was sat here tonight when this wee lad came into my head.
You and yours are in my thoughts Sazz. I do think of Ruaridh often, but more so at this time of year.
Just wanted you to know for as long as I am on this earth I will never forget. xxxx
Sleep well Ruaridh, wherever you are. xxxxRIP TJ. You my be gone, but never forgotten. Always in our hearts xxxHe is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.0 -

I second that Chris. I often think of the big man Ruars and how sad it was that he was never found. He needed to spend his old age with his family but it was not to be. I hope that wherever he is he is happy and one day, we will all be reunited with our beloved pets at the bridge.
Every day at this time of year when the fireworks are going off, I think of the poor animals that are alone outside and so frightened. I wish they would stop selling them to the public. Its a celebration of what today would be called treason - why celebrate it, why openly sell explosives to the general public to do what they want with them? Seems ridiculous to me. Such dangerous things.
Take care of yourself Ruars, be happy.
As a side note, was that guide dog Tess that went missing in the same area ever found?0 -
Sending you all, and your poor pets love and safe times at this horrid time of year
my two pooches are swaddled in their fleeces, on their bean bag, having had their valerian tablets
I have the tv on full knack, to try n drown out the bangs and booms from outside

Hate fireworks with a passion, always have.Nearly got blinded years ago by a box full. They are responsible for so much pain, fear, distress and misery.I always think of animals who don't understand and in particular ,wildlife, who must think they are guns.
Today I read that near where I live a dog in the back garden got so startled by fireworks close by suddenly going off he leapt over the fence and ran off, straight under the wheels of a lorry.Didn't stand a chance. He was only a year old.The owners are inconsolable.
Last year my friends pet duck was so scared by sudden bangs he flew off, never to be seen again though she looked everywhere for him.She raised him from a tiny duckling as he was disabled and would never survive in the wild.
So many instances of this type of thing happening. If all the money spent on these wretched things was given to charity instead just think of all the good it could do,and would prevent all the fear that pets and wildlife go through.
Sazzybum,,the loss of your boy is in my thoughts at this time of year.It must hurt terribly not to know what happened.0 -
Thanks all. I thought it would get easier after 4 years-but it doesn't really. You live with it- but you always have it in your head 'where did he go?, did he suffer?'
I like to think he got tired running, lay under a bush and slipped away. It's his fifteenth birthday today as well. So Happy Birthday at the bridge big man!
Tess was never found DD, but I do reckon she was stolen. But the river near us is really bad, as it flows into the sea, and if it rains, it's really fast flowing.
So sorry Froglet- that's awful! I hate the damn things with a passion!
I know some of you went on FB- and thank you. I had wrote a poem and posted it. It's a bit daft I know, but the words couldn't help themselves. I hope you don't mind if I post it here. And thank you all once again for the support over the years, especially when he first went missing. If it hadn't been for everyones help and Bruce being with me- I honeslt don't know what I'd have done.
That goofy grin. Those floppy ears. We've missed them both for four long years.
Your love, your heart. We thought nothing could keep us apart.
One Big Bang one flash of light-and you vanished into the night. Those lights, that spark-they made their mark.
The screams, the yells, the tears-the overwhelming fears.
I knew then you were lost and gone. And we were all alone.
We searched, we cried. Something inside me died.
There's a hole in our hearts where you should be.
But we'll meet again, old man-you'll see.
Wait at the bridge for us Ruars.
Mummy xRuaridh Armstrong-missing since 05/11/11. Come home old boy-we miss you x

I have just cried my eyes out. Love to you sazzy, and bless you Ruar.

That's beautiful sazzy. Sat here bloody fireworks going off, when will they stop selling these things to joe public. a public display if we must but not for weeks and weeks.
My Teeg got so wound up when they started here. Luckily Ollie doesn't bother about them, but it doesn't stop me wishing they were banned.
Thoughts to all our fury friends that are no longer with us tonight as well xxxxRIP TJ. You my be gone, but never forgotten. My heart goes out to you sazzy, so sorry, the not knowing must be awful xxxx
We've had a lot considering the weather is so bad, last night there was a big public display in the school near us and no doubt it'll be all weekend too. My eldest dog must have gone quite deaf since last year, so slept soundly through it bless her, in one way it's sad, but I'm so pleased she doesn't have to go through her usual anxiety. My parents had a dog that had been rescued from a fire, he suffered awfully every year.
I don't understand how they are still being sold so easily for a few pounds, couldn't they at least ban the loud ones, that seem to serve no purpose, but sound like a bombs gone off.0 -
The manager of my local Sainsburys doesn't like me being in there at this time of year- as I tend to start on people who are at the fireworks counter. I'm not rude (much) but I ask them why do they spend 100 quid just to see it go on fire?
I think it's ridiculous that they sell them BOGOF as well.. had many a happy hour arguing with the manager, even though I know it's not his fault, but I asked him to tell the higher ups. Not that he will of course.
Bruce seemed to be fine the last couple of years, but not this year-he was under the duvet most of the time quivering. Zelda- typical JRT- she wanted to go out and bark at them, no fear at all, which I'm grateful for.
But it just breaks my heart this morning to see the amount of lost dogs again due to fireworks. I know exactly how they are feeling today, and I really wouldn't wish it on my worst enemyRuaridh Armstrong-missing since 05/11/11. Come home old boy-we miss you x

Instead of wasting your time arguing with a supermarket manager and haranguing shoppers, why not contact https://www.change.org and start a petition - e.g. calling for a ban on firework sales except to legitimate organisations, or restricting firework displays to Nov. 5 or Saturday before/after, which could be presented to your MP or handed in to Downing St.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
