  • I know twitter has been mentioned before but unsure if this idea has been put on the table so to speak.

Sazzy is there a local radio station there? The DJ's are usually on twitter - im on twitter and more than happy to "follow them" & give them a tweet on your behalf - asking them to give a shout out to the local community to keep their eyes peeled for Rory (sorry about the spelling!!)

Even the local scottish bbc news presenters i would imagine be on twitter - i dont want to stand on anybodys toes and go ahead and do this if you dont think it would help ....but its just a thought as local people tend to follow local DJ's/news presenters, - even weathermen!! lol

Like i said i dont mind doing the tweeting if you want me too....

    Best of luck.... Stacey x

Stacey- that would be great thank you. The local radio station (MFR) are refusing to broadcast it any more despite numerous appeals.

I'm not on twitter- I used to be and forgot all the logins. It might have more weight from someone else also.
Ruaridh Armstrong-missing since 05/11/11. Come home old boy-we miss you x

If you can't stand behind our troops, please feel free to stand in front of them.

I will respect your opinions, even if I don't agree with them :)

I was just wondering how each of us as individuals would deal with finding an obviously lost dog???
Some days I wake up Grumpy ... Other days I let him lie in.

Is it not just the dog warden who has the seven day rule then? I've seen that some of the smaller rescues take in dogs on death row. Or are you thinking RSPCA?
The biggest mystery to me, is where are they all until found? I walk in the country everyday and have never see a lone dog.
Is it possible that lost dogs get taken in by someone, until the novelty wears off I wonder.
For the sheer number missing across the UK, one could expect to see dogs wandering everywhere.

I think a lot are dumped, either near pounds or where they will be found quickly so there aren't lots of dogs wandering the streets.

I've found dogs wandering alone twice, but both had collars on with owner's phone number so it was only minutes till they were reunited.

Regarding the 7 day rule, by law the council/dog warden have to keep stray/found dogs for 7 days to give the owner chance to come forward and collect them. The dog can stay in the home of the person who found it for 28 days instead of 7 but it still has to be reported and recorded in case the owner appears.

After 7 days, the dog is either put up for rehoming straight from the pound, handed over to a rescue or PTS. Most only get PTS if there is no room to keep them there any longer as other dogs are coming in to do their 7 days, or if the dog is dangerous so can't be responsibly rehomed straight from the pound and no rescue space is available to try and rehabilitate.

Most pounds don't PTS if there is another option, but sadly there just isn't always another option. :(

As for keeping them if you find them, well, some people just can't even if they know the dog's possible fate. I myself am allergic to most, so I couldn't take in a stray. Other people have babies, work long hours, live in bedsits or shared houses etc.
  • Ok ive tweeted the MFR radio station itself and the MFR newsroom asking both to give a shout out and to tweet me back if any sightings - also other listeners can see my tweets so if they see him they'll tweet too - will spend the night trying to rack my brain:eek: to try and think of anything else.

while ive been typing - do you have a cinnamon trust there? whereby people walk dogs for the housebound? May be worth a shot getting in touch with them if there is a cinnamon trust near by - just a quick thought ....best of luck xx

Popping in every day to hopefully find out some good news.
Sending lots of positive thoughts every day.
I think that someone has taken him in and doesnt know he's missing.
Can see him all curled up in front of a nice cosy fire.
If something bad had happened then I think you would have had the news by now.
Really cant wait to hear the good news.
I am sure it is coming soon.
When i get the time I am going to collate all this info onto one sheet
in case my dog goes missing again.

Been off t'internet for 24 hours and this is the first page I checked when I logged in - so sorry there's not good news.

I really feel Rory is on someones sofa somewhere, with them thinking they've taken in a 'poor old dog' taht someone has heartlessly dumped. We need to get a really strong story to pull at heart strings to get the papers interested. Photos of empty dog basket, empty collar, sad looking kids / pets, photos of sons in uniform with him maybe? Local papers like ready-made stories that fill pages with no work, include in the story that 35,491 people have viewed this thread on a National website.... be ruthless and exploite any angle you can. Ends jsutify the means. IMHO.

Keep strong Sazzy xx and Sean now xx
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D
