• I have just been conned out of £100 by lisa75morgan@gmail.com too. Phone number used was 07425620661 but she also claimed to be in a 'low signal area', yeah right. Knew is was fishy all along but it was just convincing enough and it seems they lure you in by thinking your getting a decent cheap deal. The item was a Pioneer DJ Mixer on gumtree in London. Feeling incredibly stupid and angry! Reported ad to gumtree.

Thank you everyone on this thread for saving me from being scammed out of £50 from Lisa75Morgan on gumtree. All emails she sent me were exactly the same as people have previously posted and it was only because I googled UKASH that I came across this scam on gumtree and then found this thread. Luckily, for me, I didn't lose any money but I can see how people would fall for this!

Just looked for the ad on gumtree and it has been removed so hopefully no one else will (nearly) fall for it.

I have nearly been scammed this evening by this woman! I have joined just so I can warn other people.

I saw an advert for a Pioneer CDJ on gumtree this morning and a really low price and the texts and emails above are exactly what I received I will copy them below. I gave out my postcode but not my full address, I couldn't understand what the scam could be until I read the last few pages.
It is like they are dangling a carrot in front of you and keep you waiting. It was only when I saw the exact photo and wording on a completed ebay listing that I realised something wasn't right and so I googled the mobile number.

lisasiph:
It's lisa from gumtree (Pioneer CDJ 1000 Mk3 Turntable-STUNNING BARGAIN, if you have any questions email me LISA75MORGAN@gmail.com

Next the email:
Hi,
Don't know if it's been long since you've emailed, I've been out so couldn't follow up on my text message. Can't promise anything but visiting my mum shortly, wouldn't mind making a drop off :)

If you'll send me your postcode I can check out on my satnav the distance to yours.

Reasonable price and accurate description, it's worth the money, no bad surprises. I won't go any lower.
Can be reached on 07425620661 low signal strength area :( but check emails regularly.
Ta,
Lisa.
P.S. Will let you know before heading out, cash only please.

I tried phoning the number 07425620661 but it goes to answer, on google her profile even has a little photo of a couple and three young children to convince you they are genuine.
How can I stop other people getting scammed by this advert

I was so angry!!! as this piano is for my daughter and she was very excited, we don't have a lot of money as most people don't these days. These ppl make me sick!!! :mad

Although I am luckier than others on here who have lost money to these thieves. I feel for you all, I really do, as it all seemed so normal. :(

I have contacted Gumtree and parcel force with regards to this.

Marvcat - so did we help you avoid actually losing money - I hope so. your post doesnt make it clear if you did end up paying or not. I hope not.

I've not been active on here last few days. Can I make clear:

PLEASE CAN ALL THOSE WHO HAVE POSTED AND LOST ON THIS SCAM EDIT THEIR POST AND INCLUDE THE LINK TO THE GUMTREE ADVERT OR ITEM REFERENCE. THIS ALLOWS US TO PROVE THE ITEM AS A FRAUD TO GUMTREE.

Hi
After I saw this forum and the mobile number I was given matched with the one on here so you saved me loosing £210 As a new user I am not allowed to post links. The gumtree advert has now been removed so I can not get the item number.

The scammer contacted me again with the same email other people have had saying about her busy work schedule and how she can send it via parcel force, obviously I am not going to do this now.

This is the reply I got from gumtree this morning

Hi,

Thank you for your email reporting this to us.

The information you have shared with us does, in our experience, show hallmarks of fraudulent activity and I would strongly advise you not to follow their instructions and end contact with them immediately.

We take reports of this nature, and the safety of our users, very seriously. I have removed this ad and used the information to try and prevent this person from using Gumtree again in the future.

If you have any other information that you feel would be useful to stop this individual or others acting in a similar way, please let me know.

Finally, if you haven’t seen it already you might want to take a look at the safety advice on our Stay Safe pages: which also includes more information on what we are doing to ensure a safe and successful experience on Gumtree.

I am very sorry that you had to come across this. We do try our best to prevent these situations from happening. I thank you very much for taking the time to report this to us so that we can take action to protect others.

Please let me know if you need anything else.

Included in the email from the scammer is a link to her google profile full of family pictures to try and look like a genuine seller.

Google this number 118231580158955372098 and about 4 results down you will see the profile for the scammer Lisa M and all the photos.

It looks like these photos are used under different names the scammer uses.

If you notice the name on the photos isn't even the name the scammer gave me instead of Lisa Morgan they are tagged as Lisa Austin

Finally after a week of emailing Gumtree about removal of the ad that I was conned with... I get the response below with not even a 'sorry'. Think the safest bet for everyone is not to use Gumtree at all as they obviously couldn't give a toss!Hello, Thank you for reporting this to us.I have dealt with that ad accordingly and it is now removed. Thanks,DonnaGumtree.comGlad by us posting here, it has helped a few people avoid the loss. Until Gumtree put in a proper security check to verify who is advertising then it's going to keep happening, Lisa will just change name/ number again...
