Do you mean like when you do like a hot pot and you want to crisp up the potatoes on top if so I have with mine but I just put it under the grill to colour the top if that makes sense.

Mine says I can, but not the lid. And they're right: the knob on the lid is not heat-proof and will melt ... :o

Mind you, mine is a brown pot (Tower) not black. If in doubt and it's not in your instruction book I would contact their Customer Services. Although if you've lost your instruction book you can often download these things nowadays!

Glad I'm not the only one...I melted the knob on my tower slow cooker in the oven 20 years ago.

I was able to use it but taking the lid off was a fine balancing act with a wooden spoon and a tea towel. I finally dropped it about a year ago and replaced it with a morphy richards slow cooker. I'm afraid to put that one near an oven, I think I'll call MR in the morning to see what they say about using in the oven/under the grill.

After all this time I finally have a question of my own :)

I just got a water filter jug. I've followed all the cleaning and setting up instructions properly, honest.

So my question is - "Should I be able to taste the difference between filtered water and the water straight from the tap?"

Because I'm sorry to say that I can't.

squeaky, I have no idea whether you should be able to taste the difference when the water is cold, BUT I know when our filter is due to be changed because the tea stops tasting so good.

  • squeky you would probably only be able to taste the diff if your water was horrible in tasting in the first place ie hard water area i think its called?
Like when i drink from my taps its fine but if i drink 5 miles away at aunties its vile and thats why she has the filters etc in place!

    Yes, mine is vile.

    Still is.

    :(

Maybe the filter just needs a bit more time to settle on.

    Hi :hello:

I want to be able to do poached eggs in the microwave in the morning for quickness but don't really want to pay out £4 for a 'special' plastic microwave egg poacher. Is there anything else I could use such as a mince pie size tupperwear box or wouldn't it cook properly?

Also how do you do scrambled egg in the microwave?

(Can you tell I don't use my microwave much!)

    Thanks

For "poached eggs" in the MW, I use a tea cup with slightly sloping sides (rather than a mug). I'll post a pic if that doesn't make sense ;) I grease lightly with butter, then cook 2 eggs for about 2 mins on high. Swish a knife around the edge and they easily slide out.

My DS makes himself scrambled eggs in the MW. He breaks 2 eggs into a mug and whisks well. The timing is dependent on the size of the eggs and the power of your MW, and they can quickly go fron liquid to rubber :o I'd recommend cooking on high for about 1 min, then on medium for about 20 secs at a time. With trial and error you'll be able to perfect the timing to your taste.
