I recently bought some beauty products for my car from Halfords, as shuffled towards the till I noticed a small sign that said something on the lines of "At checkout, youl will be asked for your house number and postcode, it would help us greatly if you helped us with this request".

I got to "pole position" and the lady on the till taps on the sign.
    "I'm sorry, I don't understand you" says I.
"It's about your postcode" says she
"I can see that" said I
"Do you mind if I ask you for your postcode ?" says she
    "Not at all" says I
"What is your postcode ?" says she
"I'm not telling you" says I
"But you said that you didn't mind me asking you for your postcode" says she
"Thats correct and I don't mind you asking me. But I'm not going to give it to you" said I.
"You could have said that before" said she
"I would have done if you had asked me for it, but you didn't" said I

I had no grump with her doing her job, but I did sympathise with her for being out in that position. Several other people had been a lot less pleasant with her about it.

    two things:

    1) Whether they use it or not, they're still going to have my name, address, credit card details etc all stored on file. Giving over your name and address is like giving potential malicious hackers a field day, surely?

    2) I'm done shopping in their shop. I've stood in line for 10 minutes (on account of them taking the address details of everyone in front) to be served. I don't want to answer questions, I certainly don't want to fill in paperwork, I want to pay for my goods and leave.

Checkout is all part of the "shopping experience" - and the more awkward they make it, the less likely I am to take my "shopping experience" there in future.

I'm certain the DVLA have sold my details to a loan firm as they allways spell my name wrong in the way it was spelt wrong on my driving license.

Surely they are doing this for a profit and I am entitled to 100% of this profit?

Despite this being in London the SA didn't bat an eye lid until the post code didn't match, I pointed out that it was a new housing development and there wasn't a post code because the local Post Office was closed on a Wednesday afternoon. She decided to fore go the address thing :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Is it printed on the receipt? I forgot and allways sling them anyway.

We should have a thread for a competition who can get the most ridiculous details on a receipt, scanned and posted on here :)

Unfortunately it was a couple of years ago so I don't have the receipt, but yes you're right it would be hilarious to have a 'competition' to see who could come up with the most outrages name and address. I'll definately get and scan one next time I'm asked :p:p:p :rotfl: :rotfl:

  • My friend and I were teaching in a college. We were given n opportunity to take a group of students to an arts trade fair at Olympia.

We were sent a form and could get a discount if we were a company so we made up an arty joke one.

We sniggered over several ideas but finally decided to call our 'company' Bolleaux and Peaux Artyfacts. In our minds it was B0llocks and P0x! We said she was Ms B Bolleaux and I was Ms P Peaux.

Very funny.....for a five minute joke........until we got there..........and they gave us the name badges we HAD to wear ALL day!

    I still get mail.....
