So anyway for Xmas I bought a Freeview box for my Mum and Dad and Argos asked me for my address details and I refused then they said I couldnt purchase any goods, well I was miffed at this but I really needed this box as all other shops were sold out so I gave them my Mum and Dads Address and postcode but got the postcde wrong as their old house number was 24 and the new house number is 24 so I gave the wrong postcode and then they replied with the old address to which I said oh no I gave you the wrong postcode and the assistant said ah thats not a problem at least we got a postcode.
So in otherwords thier is no point what so ever and its ruddy annoying anyway, well done dozy argos staff.
Also I oredered a TV for a friend off my Club book and now im being hassled to buy a TV Licence, so am I to buy two :rotfl: I dont have the TV I just got it via my club book and delivered to my address.
TV Licensing = Morons :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
I used to work for The Link as a manager and we had to ask for customers details whenever they bought a phone.
In all honesty, it really can make your life much easier if you have a problem with the product and have lost your receipt.
Their systems (and also Currys, Dixons & PC World) have a 'No Marketing' button which the sales assistant can press to ensure your details are not passed on. By default, it is set to pass your details on so ask them to check the box to ensure they aren't.0 -

I would be suprised that a mangager would reimburse or replace/repair a phone after 11months and 14days if I had no reciept but a postcode.
Mind you a credit card transaction is proof of purchase also.0 -
I've just given them a old postcode, just take a choice of where i live that day! No worries!0

The postcode, combined with surname etc would allow the member of staff to retrieve the receipt, thus proving it is still under 1 year old.0

marleyboy wrote:Because we dont want it sold on. Its just as pesonal as asking for your NI number, and bank account details. Basically its because its none of their business
Why would they sell a postcode on.??????????
How is a postcode as personal as my NI number and bank details?
Has everyone in my street got the same NI number and bank details as me?
I didnt realise my postcode would be sold on (and that of my 250 neighbours with the same postcode).0 -

Also;
I do a lot of credit card transactions over the phone. Because the person is not present to enter their pin number the PDQ machine now asks for the last 3 digits (ccv) from the back of the credit card and the numbers from the post code.
Of course if any body had a look at your credit card they could easily get your c/c number expiry date and ccv number. But they would be stumped for your post code unless you gave it them.S!!!!horpe0 -
Hmm, see the point about TVs and the PCs. However, was kind of perplexed when I bought a pair of £3 shoes from Brantano, with cash, and was asked my address.
The kid refused to sell me the shoes, and I requested to speak to the manager who backed up the kid and asked why I didn't want to give it out.
When I told him that it was completely irrelevant to my purchase he asked how he was supposed to send details of "special offers".
I did not know signing up for junkmail was now a pre-requisite of buying shoes....Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

The point is that they don't want JUST your postcode. They want your complete details i.e. postcode and number and of course they already have your card details if you paid that way. It is a way for retailers and others to profile your spending and target you with offers. It is also a great way for them to make money by selling on your details. The most annoying thing about it is that in most cases the local shop assistants are not told this and that is why they sometimes get annoyed because you have gone "off script"Education is compulsory, school is not.
