How does that stop staff theft?
I mean, a staff member is hardly likely to put their own address down if they were doing a dodgy refund.

No, but the idea is a member of staff might assume the address is checked to see if it's correct, that then detering them from making one up.
  • The point is that they don't want JUST your postcode. They want your complete details i.e. postcode and number and of course they already have your card details if you paid that way. It is a way for retailers and others to profile your spending and target you with offers. It is also a great way for them to make money by selling on your details. The most annoying thing about it is that in most cases the local shop assistants are not told this and that is why they sometimes get annoyed because you have gone "off script"

You are also telling the shop staff where you live and where that shiny expensive new gizmo will be. I am sure that 99.99% of shop staff would not sell the info to the man in the pub on the corner but why make it easy? We are already warned not to leave packaging of expensive purchases outside our houses as thieves do use this as a way of deciding which properties to target.

  • TV Licencing is just for the BBC channels that has nothing but c**p on anyway, why does the BBC need 5 bands and Cbbbbies the kids will not understand. I say get rid of the BBC because they just steal money off people for rubbish tv problems. Mainly whats on on the BBC sport.

Id be the first in the shop if they invented the tv that blocked any BBC channels, enabling me to have a telly without having a licence, I fume at having to pay so much money every year for the channels I dont watch anyway.

I have been known to give them their own Head Office address in the past. Nobody has ever argued, I just make a note of it before I go out shopping. That should cause havoc with their marketing database :)

Years ago my sis in laws mum and dad got caught this way. They bought a TV with free delivery and connection. Two days after it had been delivered the guys int he shop that sold the TV tried to break into their house and steal it back. The police did get them as they had done it to about 30 other customers as well, but it's so easy done and this is why when someone asks for my post code i always give BKK 10110 which is a zip code for an south east Asian country where i used to live:rotfl:
  • You are also telling the assistant that the house is possibly empty if they see all the family in the shop. Quick call to their mate on the mobile.

    Dear Mr

    Thank you for contacting us.

I can confirm television dealers such as Argos are legally obliged to advise us of any sales or rentals of television equipment. The information they provide is added to our computer records and if there is no TV Licence on record at that address, or if the licence is in a different name, a licence reminder is automatically produced to purchase a licence.

I hope this information is helpful.

    Yours sincerely

    Lindsey Napier
    TV Licensing

Received the above from TV Licensing in answer to a query I had re being asked to provide my address at Argos after purchasing a freeview box. It might clarify that particular subject?
