Hiya, it's a lovely floaty one with a low back and beaded shoulders and straps. It's called Valley and it's from Monsoon if you want to google it but to be honest it doesn't look anywhere near as nice as it does on!

Just found this thread so would like to join! I get married on 17th August 2013, in the Lake District. We had hoped to be married this year so we had spoken to and chosen quite a bit. The only thing we can't confirm just yet is the actual ceremony! The reception venue, the marquee, the florist, the photographer, the cake maker, the venue styling, the groom and groomsmens suits are sorted out with deposits put on the lot. I have bought my dress (got two free BM's dress as part of the deal but still have to buy one), veil, shoes and quite a bit of the jewellery for the bridal party. As we don't know yet where we will be able to get married (depends on the RC Church) we have quotes for transport but haven't booked anything.
As we have both been married before, we are having a very simple do, max 80 people with the ceremony (whichever venue we choose) at 4 pm with drinks reception and buffet at about 6.30pm. There will be a celidh in the evening but we are leaving the desserts and the cake from the buffet to allow people to graze rather than having any additional food. People will be invited to the event, not one element or the other.

The only thing that has niggled is the fact that our hotel insist on us booking all the rooms for both Friday and Saturday (their policy for weekends) which will cost us and the guests quite a bit! But, most people will be travelling so they can chose to arrive either day.
I have decided to order bits and pieces each month - am itching to order the stationary, but obviously I can't until we confirm the venue!
My OH has been pretty much involved with all the planning so far - I don't think he expected to be chosing chair sash colours to be honest!!!!!
The cake tasting and the reception drinks were a completely different matter!
And, romantic man that he is, he whisked me away for a night at a different but local hotel close to where we are having our event to mark the year to go day.

Thought I would join as now have a date for our wedding, we are getting married on the 22nd August next year. So far have booked wedding venue and reception venue. Worked out what we would like for catering etc and trying to get deals.
We will be getting married at midday and then having a drinks reception at the wedding venue we are then going to go back to our reception venue.
My sister is going to do my make-up and my dad's b and b is the evening venue so should keep costs down.

Have started looking for a dress and think I am going to keep an eye on preloved website for a 2nd hand dress, cant stomach the prices in main stream shops. But have been and tried on loads so know roughly what I'm looking for.

Am feeling stressed out by the whole experience already thou!
  • Welcome sdr2211 and Kim85 you both sound very organised! Look forward to hearing more about your plans as the year goes on!

I'm going dress shopping tomorrow - hoping to find 'the one' this time. We'll see!

Thank you myconosray, good luck for tomorrow! Isn't it daunting when you are searching for something and there is so much choice? I went to a very small local shop for mine which I found better as the owner worked hard to find me something that suited me for my budget. I never thought I would look good in the dress I have orderd (and which has arrived I understand - eeek!) but she persuaded me to give it a go. There wasn't any pressure to buy as she wanted me to be happy with my choice and I did go back two or three times to be sure before I put the deposit down.

I hope you find something you like and that you enjoy your day.
  • Urghhh dress shopping was a disaster. I felt really fat in everything and felt so gutted that I'd failed to lose any weight since the last time I'd been shopping and still felt the same about so many of the dresses which I love but just feel fat in. I think I have now tried on every style in the book and just don't even want to keep going back.

Anyone else have/ having major dress struggles?
