Thought I would join as now have a date for our wedding, we are getting married on the 22nd August next year. So far have booked wedding venue and reception venue. Worked out what we would like for catering etc and trying to get deals.
We will be getting married at midday and then having a drinks reception at the wedding venue we are then going to go back to our reception venue.
My sister is going to do my make-up and my dad's b and b is the evening venue so should keep costs down.

Have started looking for a dress and think I am going to keep an eye on preloved website for a 2nd hand dress, cant stomach the prices in main stream shops. But have been and tried on loads so know roughly what I'm looking for.

Am feeling stressed out by the whole experience already thou!

have you seen this site Kim85? there are loads of dresses on here (although not the one I wanted so had to pay full price!)

Urghhh dress shopping was a disaster. I felt really fat in everything and felt so gutted that I'd failed to lose any weight since the last time I'd been shopping and still felt the same about so many of the dresses which I love but just feel fat in. I think I have now tried on every style in the book and just don't even want to keep going back.

Anyone else have/ having major dress struggles?

I did, I felt big in everything. I tried on over 40 dresses. I have now found the one which sucked me in and I felt great in even though I still have a stone to loose.
I really felt like I was never going to get 'the feeling of the one' but I think you just have to keep persevering with the dress and your weight xxx

  • How are you all getting on?

My Save the Date cards arrived today, very excited, and finally got insurance sorted too.

I've picked my wedding ring, so just need to order it now, and the deposit is paid on the venue.

Have also confirmed who is conducting the wedding, in the end we have gone for my old school friend who is a minister but is adjusting the ceremony to encompass my faith and H2B's atheism, so pretty perfect compromise. And my old music teacher is booked for playing the piano for the ceremony too, and SIL2B is going to play her trumpet when we sign the registry (she is a professional trumpet player, and best way to include her)

I've done all the big stuff... church, venue, cars, photographer, cake, flowers, venue dressing, suits booked. Bought wedding dress, stationary for invites etc, bridesmaid dresses chosen. Not got much left to do! Except pay for it :(

Tell me about it! Me and H2B were quite smugly thinking we had more or less all the money saved that we needed until we did another add up and came up £2000 short.... Not sure how everything is costing so much when we're going as budget as can be imagined...

  • I bought 2 bridesmaid dresses the other day (for our eldest 2 daughters). Its starting to seem more real now I have wedding stuff actually hanging in the wardrobe.

Although Im excited about it getting closer, I'm also feeling nervous about how much saving I still need to do.

My dress arrived and I went yesterday to try it on and pay the balance! It wasn't meant to be here until the end of January but the shop had ordered several in the style and they all arrived together. Fortunately, I didn't have much of the balance to pay but still, not an expected outgoing this month. I don't quite fit in it but not far off and at least I have the time to focus on losing the weight. I am not wearing white or ivory either!
Myconosray - I tried loads of dresses on at the shop and felt awful in them all, if it hadn't been for the owner basically telling me that I had to try the dress I finally ordered on in the different colour I would have done what I usually do when clothes shopping - left in a bad mood as I really struggle with how I look. I was having a few wobbles about this dress too until I tried it on again and had a little weep. First time I have had that reaction! I looked awful in the traditional white and ivory dresses as they made me look washed out and despite finding dresses that suited my shape, they made me feel very uncomfortable.
I am having a few issues about the ceremony though - I have been married before and in order to marry in a Catholic Chapel which would mean a lot to both my H2B and myself, I have had to petition for that marriage to be declared null. The application was submitted in July 2010. I have heard that I am now 18th on the list to be heard so it might be January or February when they consider it. Leaves things a bit tight for August next year (a date picked as we had to put it back a year) so now looking for a Plan C venue. Agggghhhhh! Anyone else been through that?
