As far as I am aware camping food is all about BBQ's! I have been camping for years and its the only time OH does the majority of the cooking. We have
Steak and Jacket Potatoes
Burgers and Sausages
Chicken
Then if not BBQ weather
Curry (from a jar)
Super Noodles
Quesadillas
Can't imagine using spices in a tent! lol The people who write these articles can't be campers!0 -

Well, just because your idea of camping food is rather limited, no need to sneer at other people.
I certainly take a small container of whole spices and a bit of nutmeg with me. And I wild camp rather than camp-site stuff most of the time.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
I work for a camping organisation and I find it sad (and irritating) how much snobbery and inverted snobbery there is. There isn't only one 'kind' of person who goes camping, and who on earth would want there to be, anyway?
When we go camping we like to try local specialities where we can, and certainly locally produced foods. Other than that, we just adapt the same sorts of foods that we eat at home anyway, albeit with a lot less roasting/grilling/steaming and more boiling/frying. If you know you are going to a certain campsite for a week and you have room in your car it makes sense to plan ahead and take with you whatever cooking vessels and non-perishables you envisage needing. If you would consider it reasonable to take salt and pepper with you then why not any other type of spice or condiment?
I wouldn't consider a bottle of balsamic vinegar to be an essential either at home or on a campsite, but I'm certainly not going to sneer at anyone else who does.0 -

I also remember the Rima grill. It was used regularly by my mum in the early eighties.:)
I have been reading around as it appears the Rima is no longer made.
Has anyone used a contact grill with a square tin like a cake pan to cook in the way the Rima used to have a cook pan ?
Did it work ?

I know some of these will have already been suggested.
I like to take 2-3 days food initially, whether we're in the tent or a static van, usually that's been put aside for the holiday over quite a few weeks, so don't need to shop right away - cornflakes, cooking oil, UHT milk, tea, coffee, sugar, packet soup. raid takeaways for salt, ketchup & mayo.
4 tins - ham, potatoes, pineapple and sweetcorn - fried potatoes & ham - think gammon steaks.
Pasta with a tin of tomatoes and a tin of tuna.
macaroni cheese, from the packet.
Smoked sausage (doesn't need to live in the fridge), with noodles or cous cous
I've added minestone packet soup to mince to make bolognaise. Chicken soup can make a sauce as well, especially lidls cos it's nice and thick. Tinned chicken in aspic doesn't warm up well - goes mushy, never tried tinned chicken in a sauce, I'm sure it would be better.
Microwave-able rice is great when you're camping - 2 minutes in the frying pan then add whatever you got!0 -
Hi all,
I'm hoping for some very quick and easy meal ideas please. I know there's tons of recipes on this board but I'm more looking for inspiration. We're off on holiday soon and I'd like to stick to our food budget while not spending too much time cooking. We'll be staying in a static caravan so I imagine appliances will be limited.
Also, we're cooking for a toddler so I prefer to avoid processed stuff as much as possible (I know I'm asking for quite a lot here!).
Thanks xMust get organised and rejoin grocery challenge!0 -

We tend to eat instant porridge or Weetabix and berries or bananas for breakfast, or egg, bacon, tomato and toast.
Coldmeat and salad for lunch, sandwiches, pasta, baked potatoes and a topping, omelettes.
Supper....spag bol, lasagne, sausage, mash and beans, lamb chops and cous cous with peppers, curry and rice, chicken portions, rice and veg, steak, egg and chips or gammon, egg and chips.
We're off tomorrow! :T:T:T:TFelines are my favourite

Wakey wakey little camping thread! It's almost time to play! :j:beer::T
I've recently bought a little vintage caravan after camping with tents for 25+ years! I've been scouring for one or two pot meals that will cook pretty quickly to minimise steam/condensation in the van.
Have got loads of great ideas from here so thank you all - here's a few recipes & tips to add to the pot...
Creamy Mustard Pork - fry off cubes of pork with onions, garlic & peppers. When done stir in a big dollop of cream cheese and a tablespoon or so of wholegrain mustard. Can use chicken instead of pork if ya like. Serve with salad/crispy saute potatoes/rice/mash or even in a baguette - YUM!!!
A great lunch is crumpets with sweet chilli sauce and cheddar cheese.
And a fantastic breakfast is the French style of ham, cheese and and nice bread.
Risotto should be an easy to make one pot meal - I hate admit I've never made a risotto before - may have to try toight.
As for camping tips... Salt, pepper, chilli & gravy powder - I decant these into those little ziploc type bags (you know, the ones you press the top together and they seal) to save weight & space. When you get home you can just empty them back into your jars at home to save waste.
I keep all our smaller bits of camping gear in 2 transparent plastic boxes with click on lids in the shed. This saves stuff getting dirty or ending up with spiders making themselves at home in there. It also keeps everything together, they are easy to chuck in the car adn thye stack in the tent, waterproof the contents in bad weather and double up as a beer cooler once on site or little side tables (so as not to spill your wine!)
We ALWAYS forget something so if you're like us make a masterlist and keep it in your boxes. Add what you forget on each trip and evetually you should have a failsafe list so you never have to pay over the odds for loo paper/sugar/tea bags again!
We've got our first trip planned for Easter but I wanna go play NOW!Piggypoints - 207+£10 * Quidco - £95 * Tesco - 1095 * Sainsbugs - 4237I SHALL be debt free!!!!!:D
