been going thru this thread avidly!! loads of good ideas here
hope you have some brilliant times in your "new" vintage caravan miss phish
we're in the middle of renovating a 27ft camper, ready to hit the roads in october, and practically live in it for 12mths, touring the uk....just waiting for youngest to start uni, but we'll still have our house as a base....can't wait.....and i'll be taking along my slow cooker AND bread maker!!0 -
It's getting to that time of year isn't it? time to sort the camping gear out fairly soon.
We're obviously some of the odd people referred to by posters above! We do take flour - to make pancakes and waffles, we also take spices - why wouldn't we?

We are hoping to do a road trip of America when DH retires, hire an RV over there and go where we like. He is only 48 this year so a while to go yet but its a plan (dream).“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

I'm going to be starting to make some rally meals soon - basically just things we'd normally have but put into a food bag stored flat in the freezer. Then, when it's taken out it can defrost on the way and be ready to reheat when we're set up. I love camping. Space is always at a premium so my ingenuity is tested! I make a little bit of a spice mixture to take with us and put it in a small bag - a bit of garlic powder, a bit of salt, a bit of pepper and perhaps a little paprika. It just gives a bit of a lift.
The usual rally meals I make are:
meaty pasta
corned beef hash
chicken curry (only I put chunks of potato in with the curry rather than rice so it can all reheat at once)
spicy mince (to go over a bag of chips or something)
I'll definitely be using some of the ideas on this thread though. I particularly like the samosas mentioned on page one and it gave me another idea. Making toasties in the sandwich toaster at home so all they have to do is warm up on arrival. Bliss!
Thanks for reviving the thread.

Yep, I was thinking that as I was reading through the thread - I guess if you're at home all day and have to think about feeding hoards day in day out, easily reheated canned meals would be what you'd want from a holiday so you get time to put your feet up.
I am the opposite, there's only the 2 of us and I love cooking. I can't wait to be set up in my little kitchen and look forward to spending time making yummy things for us. I don't even want to take a hm frozen meal for the first night!Piggypoints - 207+£10 * Quidco - £95 * Tesco - 1095 * Sainsbugs - 4237I SHALL be debt free!!!!!:D

Hello Fellow Ging-Gang-Goolies
How exciting to think its nearly time to sleep under the stars once again.
We have a big family text and LOVE IT! I wish it had central heating so we could live in it permanently:D:D
Our littlie is already planning our first camping trip of the season, hoping we can go one of the bank holidays in May - the earliest we have camped was March in the Lake District  It was freeeezing, we woke up with frost on the tent and frozen drinks!
Meal wise we generally have a meaty pasta, spag bol or similar, chilli-con-carne, corned beef hash, sausage egg and beans or sometimes will bring a frozen meal from home. :T:j Mortgage Free!! )Generally trying to cut back where possible :j0 -

If you have got room definitely take your slow cooker if you have one. I also always take my Remoska too. Would like to take my BM but DH says we don't have the room, so I make a few loaves before I go and freeze them when we arrive. At least that way we can have HM bread for a week at least before having to buy it.0

Tescoe's gluten free spaghetti is pretty good, you could do a spag bol that everyone could eat. Curry or chilli and rice are also good for gluten free diets. DOn't forget oats contain gluten too, lots of people think they don't!!0
