I've never had any dealings with Phones4u but my daughter came home today with a leaflet from T-Mobile that had the Sony Ericsson K770i pay as you go at £99.99 instead of £199.99. Their website still has it listed at the higher price but when I rang them they suggested I bought one direct from one of their shops instead of over the phone as it would be ten or twenty pounds cheaper (than the lower price). I was a bit shocked at them trying to save me money, and I've no idea if they were right until I follow it up tomorrow.

Sorry this doesn't answer your question on any level at all but if you really want a K770i I thought it might be of use to you. :o
  • I don't know if any of you good people can help us out with this, but here's hoping.

My DH and I bought two mobiles from Phones4U last Jan on 18 month contracts with 3 - but we would get cashback - to effectively mean that the monthly charge for the first year would be £5 for me and £7 for him.

We have successfully claimed 2 lots of cashback. However, last time they only sent a cashback form for DH and not for my phone. So my DH rang them and they said they'd send us a form - which they did but it was for DH phone not mine. So, DH rang them and eventually spoke to a manager (all of this is documented at home) who said to cross out his number on one form and that they would send a cheque. A cheque arrived for DH phone but not for mine, along with a form for next month for DH phone.

So, DH rings them today - speaking to the same person who he spoke to before. Manager DENIES conversation or ever agreeing to it (although couldn't explain why my DH knew his name). As a result, cashback for my phone is not going to be paid (and he threatened to withdraw cashback for DH's phone as well as cutting him off). He also blamed DH for not doing it properly ... what?!

DH is incensed (and he doesn't get cross easily) and I am mad too. I am about to write to the MD (although I'm struggling to find his name) to complain - this is about £150 they have diddled us out of.

Can anyone help or advise at all please?

    Many thanks

    Debt-free and Proud!
id write a full complaint, recorded delivery to thier chief exec to be honest - when managers lie you have no choice but to go to the top
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)
  • Thanks for that - letter being drafted as I speak (now we've both calmed down!!).
  • OK, I know cashback can be a pain in the backside, but all my contracts have been that way to date (e2save, CPW) apart from 3 who gave a great deal via Quido etc.

I've found a deal from Phones4u, and was wondering on peoples thoughts of the company...

Should I keep away or is it worth the gamble... (with CPW, there are people to contact and it never goes to messey a few calls and complaints and problems sorted)

    However never used Phones4U

Please post if they should be trusted, if you have had your payouts, if they have failed to pay out etc...

    Many Thanks!
  • I have just discovered that my reclaim to 4U has been lying in the Royal Mail for two months . Can 4U avoid a claim due to this point?

2.2 Phones4u cannot accept responsibility for applications lost or delayed in the post. Proof of posting will not be accepted as proof of delivery.

    What is my recourse ?

    Royal mail?

    Hi guys
I wanted a new phone and in the end chose the LG Viewty so I found a great deal on orange - 12 month contract, £30 a month and the handset free. i thought this was great as I usually go with pay as you go as i hate feeling constricted to a company and didnt want an 18 month contract! So i ordered it online through phones4u and awaited news about my credit check and got an email saying it had failed and i guessed it was probably because i am an 18 yr old student with no previous credit history.

But then, i got a phonecall from phones4u saying that there was a delay with my order. No word about the fact my credit check had failed. So the guy asked me to confirm all my details which was fine and then told me that the offer i had order was now no longer available! a possible lie? as its still on the website! although they have no phones in stock!
so after all his generic phone salesman speech he offered me a £35 a month 18 month contract with £100 auto cashback and unlimited texts. sure the extra minutes and texts on this contract are good but really i will not use them all! hence why i never went for this contract in the first place! and also i am apprehensive about the cashback as i have seen on this forum that they are not always reliable!
so he basically talked me into it and said that he'd make a compromise and after 15 months i could cancel it etc! after i said "right ok" that was it. he said i'd get it by thursday (tomorrow) and still no word of the email saying it had failed!

so basically i feel that i was talked into this deal, i got the feeling that he thought i was clueless about everything as he knew my date of birth letting him know i am only 18.
so what do you think? is this a good deal?

thanks for your advice in advance!
Money is only of any use if you can spend it!

You made some very basic mistakes. Waitied until the first claim rather than before you bought to establish exactly what's required. Sent without checking and tracking it got there. I'm afraid you've had it!

I am sorry that I do not know how good a deal you may have there and although some of the cash backs are not successful that is not the case for all of them.
The problem is that if Orange has decided that they declined your credit check then you will not be able to use the phone even if it arrives as it will be blocked. I suggest you call Phones4U and get them to explain what is happening and if you get no satisfaction, tomorrow contact Orange to find out if there is an account set up in your name at least then you will know if you are going to be charged and if you are going to be able to use the contract.
You get 7 days in which to return a phone bought over the internet and I advise that you keep any reciept you have for the return so that you have the proof if there should be any problems.
I can't give you further information but I am sure that someone in the know will give you that help

I'm just over halfway through a 12-month cashback deal with them and received my 2nd cashback cheque today. I've had no problems at all; the only precaution I've taken is to send the forms by special delivery with consequential loss in case they get lost in the post.

So, in my experience at least, they are perfectly trustworthy - although as you've said, cashback is not necessarily the most simple way of owning a mobile phone ... but it can be the cheapest (completely free with the deal I'm on :)).
