OK, am going to send off my first Phones4U claim soon and am a bit scared! Going to do special delivery with consequential loss I think...
To those of you who have sent off claims, and had payments without any problems, did you send your original bill or a copy of the bill?0 -

Original but I made a copy of it, and the claim form, before sending them..0 -
Original but I made a copy of it, and the claim form, before sending them.
Thanks for that.
Did you basically just do what the claim form said?
Also, was your first claim your 5th or 6th bill?
Mine says 'wait til claim date is reached and send most recent bill'. My claim date was 9th january and my recent bill at that point was my 14th december bill (5th bill). Now I've waited a while, I've had another one, I've had my 14th January bill (6th bill).
On the inside cover of the phones4u document folder thing I got with my phone, it said to send your 6th month bill. Am thinking, as this contradicts what was on my claim form, the instructions here are outdated. Still not sure though...0 -

Yep, although I was on a different deal where it originally said to send 3rd, 6th, 9th and 12th bills. However the claim form said the same as yours, 'wait til claim date is reached and send most recent bill' - which because of Vodafone issuing a first bill covering a longer amount of time than usual was actually my 2nd bill when the claim date came (although by the time I sent the form a few days later my 3rd bill had arrived). Phones4u paid out no problem.
Other people on the same deal as me have posted on hotukdeals that they sent the 3rd bill and Phones4u also paid out no problem - so the answer is probably that it doesn't matter which one you send.0 -
Cheers :-)
OK, will be posting off my original 5th bill (of which I have made a copy) tommorow by special delivery insured for consequential loss! Wish me luck!
(Will post back with my results...)
*update*
After all that effort to get it right, I posted the documents as above, then I lost the bloody special delivery receipt didn't I?!
Started to panic slightly, but luckily, I received my cheque and next claim form on Saturday. Will be making a note of the tracking number before posting it next time!0 -
My boyfriend got a contract through Phones 4U last year and he was offered chequeback. When he sent them off he got both cheques fine, even though he upgraded his phone and changed the tariff directly with O2 when they phoned him up about 6 months into it.
Anyway I have a question for anybody who has been bought out of their contract........
I got a contract through them at the same time as my bf and now it is about 12 months later so I went into the store and they offered to buy me out. They offered me a new contract etc and new phone.... and also £220 chequeback , half in 3 months and half in 6.
I thought that the chequeback was an extra deal because my boyfriend got it when he got his first contract through them and they weren't buying him out or anything...
But then i realised that the chequeback is just about the amount that the remainder of my old contract will cost. Also after talking to others who have been bought out by phones4u, they said that phones 4 u don't cancel your contract themselves but they give you the money to do it either straight up or send a cheque straight away, but when i was there they didnt mention directly how they were going to buy it out. i assumed (naively i guess) that they do it themselves ...
The only money back they mentioned to me getting in the shop when i was there is this chequeback offer which they implied to me was just an extra !!! most people like my boyfriend got it even when they are not being bought out. But most people i have talked to since who have had their contract bought out said they were paid directly or sent a cheque straight away to cover the remainder of their old contract, and something like this was never mentioned to me when i was there...
What I want to know is whether this chequeback offer i have received is definitely what they are giving me to cover the cost of my old contract or if it is something separate. Surely if it is for buying out my contract, I should deserve to be given that money straight away (as most other people i have talked to seem to have been given) rather than this way, otherwise i will be paying for 2 contracts for 3 months without getting any money from them for it?
Will i get a cheque in the post soon for paying off my old contract or do they explicitly tell you if they are doing this? Has anybody else been bought out of their contract through chequeback?:j
Thank you all posters0 -
Wanted to relate my experience to ensure balance regarding Phones 4u and to hopefully give people some confidence.
We took out a contract with Vodafone via Phones 4u - Nokia 6300, 500 mins + 500 texts per month and already registered for passport last July on 100% cashback with £60 via Quidco.
Had to e-mail to ask for the claim form as it did not come with the original paperwork, but arrived next day after my e-mail with apology that not sent out.
First "valid claim date" stated on the form was 13th December. Posted the claim special delivery 21st December with network bill dated 19th December that was received on 21st. Cheque arrived 10th January which means they processed my claim within 10 working days.
The second claim form was included with a "valid claim date" of 13th February. Posted that claim by recorded delivery on Monday 18th (took it to Post Office on 16th but missed the recorded delivery collection time) and enclosed the network bill dated 19th January. Cheque received yesterday with next claim form which means they processed my claim within 8 working days.
We've got great Vodafone reception as opposed to the rubbish Orange we had in the past and I can only praise Phones 4u for fantastic service. Contrast their service with Coolnewmobile who took weeks longer than they said they would to pay and then I didn't get my last payment, and I have to say there is no comparison.
We've just taken out another 12 months free deal on Vodafone with same network airtime/texts but got the phone from Mobiles2YourDoor who are part of Phones 4u. Also getting £45 Quidco cashback which has tracked and provided I'm diligent about claim dates, then I do not anticipate any difference to the service I've personally received from Phones 4u.
Hope this helps some one. Regards Piker.0 -
I would have said don't touch them with a barge pole the other day for sure. Their 12 month guarantee for new phones is very peculiar - they will offer repairs, but at a cost, eg no fault found 17.63, beyond economical repair 17.63, refused estimate 17.63, cancellation charge 17.63. These charges are to cover inspection, handling and carriage costs apparently.
After trawling the net for advice, someone suggested emailing Tim Whiting, as in his experience, it had resulted in the whole thing being sorted out ,so I tried it and I've got some senior complaints executive looking into this , so fingers crossed.0 -
please help, my mobile contract is up in the next week or so and I would like another contract. I have seen a cashback deal on phones4u, but I'm really nervous about doing this as got ripped off by Simply 3G this year. I didn't manage to claim any of my cashback before they went into liquidation.
Anyway, the phone I have seen is the Samsung G600. After reading this thread it seems that phones4u is paying the cheques to people, but I was told by Vodafone that p4u are having difficulties at the mo and not to use them!
Who do I believe?? Do I take out another cashback deal with p4u or not? Do I believe Voda or are they just badmouthing p4u??
I'd be really grateful for some truthful advice. Thank you in advance0
