I was always told that banks are obliged to help when asked to do so. How true that is i have no idea its what my daddy says so it must be true! You can touch the dust but please don't write in it !
Would you like to speak to the man in charge, or the woman who knows whats happening?0 -
Haha
well I will set that challenge.... It was going to take me at least 3 years to clear overdrafts and c card .... I was paying 240 interest there and 213 repayment on the loan which was 5years...and that was without paying capital on od and ccards.....and going with absolutely nothing which as you so rightly say was sheer stress...in fact I have lost so much weight etc....God knows how I have kept my highly stressy job down....
I am going to take a week or two after this has cleared and then I am going to bombard the bank for answers..... as they say and admit it never should have happened...( I know I was EXTREMELY irresponsible out of character and blatantly ill) I lost all my savings....and a huge amount of money0 -

Hi
I've read alot of the posts and forgive me if I've missed this (there's been such an overwhelming response to your post) but no one seems to have questioned - Are you liable for all this debt? You had to endure an awful situation and your gambling was a symptom of the post-truma you suffered. Credit companies have a responsibility to ensure customers are fully aware of the implications of using credit and able to fully understand their credit agreement. I maybe possible to argue that your creditors didn't fulfill their obligations to be responsible lenders and therefore contributed significantly to your situation and you are therefore not liable for the full amount of debt.
However, it would be fully understandable if you didn't want to argue this as it may mean having to revisit your past and you would need to get the advice of a specialist debt worker or a solicitor.
Good luck MU, a mess is only something that has been sorted out yet, and you're already on your way to sorting this out.:oFinished the training and I am now a Debt Caseworker

youre dead right chunky, my job has been an absolute godsend distraction, I am lucky that I do love it and it wears me out.....
Thankyou, I feel human again LOL :rotfl:0 -
Thx debt buster........ I am going to pursue the bank heavily soon, once I get the right addresses.....and I will be going along those lines, I wont be seeing a solicitor as I spent 10 years raking over everything to gain the compensation and it was the comp that led to this . I just think the bank should have practiced responsible lending, and this had had a right ripple effect through my family. If the Overdraft was for 500 I would now not be in 50k worth of debt.0

Please dont get me wrong though I do want to pay it off...I just dont want it to happen to anyone else and I need an answer as to how this was allowed xxx0

Hi MU, really good to hear from you again. I wondered if you might be posting on here under a different name!!
Certainly I think that this loan is a definite step in the right direction for you. Generally you know we would advise against consolidation, but of course your circumstances are not the usual, spend - consolidate - spend - consolidate ones so I would say take the loan, give yourself that "space" to allow you to breathe, and then when you are able, and so inclined, get hammering it down by way of overpayments.
OK so the interest rate is not the best, but it is better than you have been paying, so it has got to be better.
You sound as though you have your head together right now. That must feel so much better than earlier in the year. Allow yourself to be in a good place, you have done nothing wrong, you know that, we know that and the bank know that.
Are you getting any sort of bereavement counselling - ok it was some time ago, but it may be worth requesting at some point?
When you are ready, fight the bank, but don't do it until you feel strong enough one way or another.
Keep posting, let us know how you are getting on, and be proud of the huge strides forward that you are taking xSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0
