DD wore my perfume!

  • I have 2 girls, 11 and 9. If I sent them to bed everytime they borrowed something of mine they would never be out of it! Serious over-reacting to using your stuff, I would be more annoyed that she lied about it. However saying that, I think a telling off and sending her to bed covers it. Let it go for now but when you are both in a better frame of mind have a chat about lying.

I always tell my two that I may be annoyed at something they do but I would be far more annoyed if they then lie about it and stress how important it is to tell me (and their dad) the truth.

Indeed! I used to have a friend who decided never to speak to me again after I told her small daughter that if she didn't leave my things alone, then I'd put her outside in the garden. Instead of being ashamed that her daughter was so naughty (in my house!) that I'd had to say something, she reacted as if I had threatened to beat her!

To be honest, I would be really peed off with you if had said that to my daughter when she was small. All depending on her age (I am assuming 5 or under by your use of the word "small") I would gladly end a friendship with someone who thought they could say that to my child, irrespective of what you thought!

....indeed, threatening to lock a small child outside the house would be quite frightening to them I suspect.
I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off :o

I think it would depend on how it was said too! I don't think I'd have the guts to say it out loud, although I'd probably think it :p

Ha ha think away, I am sure we have all had children in our house and thought "seriously!? " over various things!

BUT someone telling my young DD they would be out out in the garden...a young child would not likely be able to differentiate between reality and joke (and TBH, from the tone of the post I am not convinced she would not have done it, and I am 30!)
