Best way to get the Iphone 4S?

Just a note if you're considering going with Tesco - their stock situation appears to be dire at the moment, they're prioritising existing customers who have pre-registered and a lot of them have no idea when they'll get a phone. Looks like new customers will have to wait until existing customers have been dealt with. There doesn't seem to be any information about timescales either.0

Do you have 20 gazillions saved messages? If so, try deleting some. For the rest, are you running the latest software? (though you might be stuck with what Voda saw fit to release rather than the latest Samsung stuff). If you haven't already, download KIES from the Samsung website, install it on your computer, connect your phone and follow the instructions - it should tell you if there are any updates for your phone. Worse case, you could do a factory reset, though I assume you're not rooted so can't use Titanium Backup - though you probably have Google backup enabled for your apps (check!) and have a nosey on the market, I think MyBackup doesn't need root but won't be as thorough as Titanium. There's some backup function in KIES I think, however it's a rather poor piece of software and might take ages to do!
Edit: if you want to back up sms, then 3rd party apps (Go SMS, which I use - it's free btw) can backup to your micro sd
Cheers for the info!
I dont have many SMS's stored on the phone, but I will delete them and see if it helps!
I do indeed have Kies, i remember updating it about 3 months ago to the latest software. I have plugged it in again and its saying update available but not available for your phone?
I might try the factory reset!

The £35 a month Tesco 12 month deal is best value if you use over 250mins a month
£655.00 over the year.
So technically if you call an iphone £500 its £8.75 a month over the year.
So its between that or your police deal depending on mins/texts (Isnt the voice mobile an iphone 4 and not a 4s?)

Probably because your phone is tied to Vodafone, carriers do fiddle with the ROMs and Voda probably haven't bothered to release their version of the latest Samsung update... Nothing you can do about that unless you're happy to go messing about with stuff, in which case you could head over to the XDA-devs forum and learn how to flash a Samsung ROM (rather than Voda's version) using Odin (the software used by Samsung techies). The one thing I *do* like about Apple is that they don't allow carriers to do anything to the software.I might try the factory reset!
Always does phones the world of good...it's like a big spring clean! Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
Worth noting that Vodafone are being discussed elsewhere on the forum for pushing a price rise on everyone, including existing customers. I would bear this in mind before committing to a long term contract with them as their current T&Cs mean that they could raise your bill on 1 months notice provided that it was less than 10%. There doesn't appear to be any limit to how often they could do that during your contract.Space for rent, apply within - Free trial on Thanks button though0

Now that is interesting. I have seen the other thread, but I havent got round to reading it yet!
The deals for the Iphone on Vodafone are really poor anyway! I think my 9 year stay with Vodafone is coming to an end!0 -
I am also trying to buy the new iphone and think that i would just buy the iphone direct from Apple and then go for the giffgaff Sim only deal .. what do others think? thnx0

Does using a cut down giff gaff sim invalidate the iphone warranty?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Matt,
I am in a very similar situation. My phone contract is expiring in 4 weeks with Vodafone and I'm looking at which phone to get really, the 4s or the Galaxy 2.
In relation to the 4s, I really can't see anything competing with the Police deal. £30 a month with free phone for a 4s is unbeatable. I am struggling to understand how the Tesco deal even compares to the Voice deal. It may £5 a month cheaper but the handset cost is £335, which is an extra £14 a month if we compare to the 24 month Voice contract. Thus still £9 (14-5) a month more. You then have the flexibility to use this £9 saving how you wish, i.e. spend it on text boosters or data allowance or keep it in your bank!
I realise that the Tesco option is only 12 months. But unless you are a big techno addict, I would expect the 4s to still be a top quality phone 12 months down the line and you probably wouldn't have a want to change to the (no doubt) Iphone 5 on a bigger contract. Personally, I always think 18month contracts are ideal (savings on monthly cost compared to time to change phone) but 24 is no real biggie.
I know you didn't want to get into this, BUT I am getting pulled more towards the Samsung Galaxy 2 tbh. The 4s improvement seems to bring it on par with the G2. However the G2 has a larger better screen AND I have seen an overall best price of £22 a month which fits my needs.
However, the thing stopping me committing is the thought that will I ever be able to get an iphone for a straight £30 a month in future? I have never seen a deal as good as the Voice one (the Fed membership finally coming good!?!)
So overall I am torn between getting a brand new popular product (4s) on the best contract I have ever seen for one or getting an equal product (S2) on an overall cheaper contract.
Keep me updated with your thoughts and decisions Matt as they may help tilt me one way or the other. This thread has come just at the right time for me.
Cheers.0
