Best way to get the Iphone 4S?

Hi All,

My Samsung Galaxy S is about to die, and although I am still in contract with Vodafone, on Envirophone they will give me £144 for my Galaxy S, which would pay my early termination fee to Vodafone and still leave me with change, so I have come to the conclusion that I want a more reliable phone, thats going to last me 24 months!

After reading Martins article about the cheapest way to get the new Iphone, I am wondering what seems the best option?

Now, I am got good credit, and can comfortably afford any outgoing I have at the moment.

There are 4 options in which I have identified in being the best options for me. These are:

Three - Handset cost £129. £30 per month. 300 Minutes, 5000 txts and 500mb of data.

Voice Mobile ( Police rate ). Handset Cost is free, £30 per month, 450 minutes, 250 txts, unl landline 2 landline calls, 750mb data, warranty cover.

Tesco - Handset Cost £335, £25pm with 250 minutes, unlimited txts and 1gb internet ( 12 month contact ).

Apple - handset price £499 and get a £10 sim with giff gaff.

I could afford the handset cost using my savings and replenishing my savings that bit extra on a monthly basis, or I could get the Tesco 15 months 0% credit card and pay it off before the 15 months.

I dont own a credit card, and never have done. However, I have been told it will really boost my credit score if I use it and pay it off?

The voice mobile police deal seems the best option obviously, however I use far more than 250 texts a month and really dont want to spend over £30 a month on a phone!

What do you guys reckon the best deal is?

Any help appreciated!?

Does your Galaxy not have 24 months warranty - unlike 'more reliable' iPhone (unless you pay £61 extra)?

Not that I know of? Its already been repairs once, however that was within its 12 months.

I dont really want to turn this into a more reliable - Apple Vs Samsung contest, as thats not what I am asking for. However, in my experience, the Galaxy is a lot more unreliable than the Iphone 3gs / 4. I have only made this observation by friends who have the same phone and friends who have the Iphone.
  • Samsung do give a 24 month warranty. From my experience working in the field, I always found Samsung the most reliable manufacturer out there. Apple were also good but I find their 12 month warranty very poor customer service, considering their devices are the most expensive on the market.
Have I helped? Feel free to click the 'Thanks' button. I like to feel useful (and smug). ;)

Samsung handsets *do* have a 24 months warranty (but only 12 months for accessories included with the phone and 6 months for the battery).

edit: beaten to it by MissKeith :p

The £35 a month Tesco 12 month deal is best value if you use over 250mins a month
    £655.00 over the year.

So technically if you call an iphone £500 its £8.75 a month over the year.

So its between that or your police deal depending on mins/texts (Isnt the voice mobile an iphone 4 and not a 4s?)

Thanks for letting me know that the Samsung has 24 months warranty! Certainly given me food for thought! I dont really want a phone thats going to have to go in for repairs all the while, and dont get me started on the battery life of the Galaxy S. My battery now lasts for half a day.

Tesco certainly do seem to be the best around! That is a really good deal for a 12 month contract!!

    Thanks!

Thanks for your input Ariel. I do like the Voice mobile deal, but the Tesco deal is looking very good, especially with the unlimited Open Zone wifi access! Although, Voice mobile does give extra warranty so they both have their good points.

I suppose I need to wait for Vodafone to ring first to see what they say. I will drop you a PM with regards to the condition of the phone.

A new Samsung branded battery would cost about £20... Exactly what's wrong with your phone? If you just want to buy something else, then by all means do :p but we can see if we can do anything to bring your handset back to full health :)

Keeps turning itself on and off and can sometimes be slow when texting.

To be honest, I dont really want a phone that I am going to have to send off for repair all the time.

Also, another massive thing for me is Sky Go ( Sky Sports ), which for some strange reason is only available on the Iphone!!!!!!

    Cheers!!!

Do you have 20 gazillions saved messages? If so, try deleting some. For the rest, are you running the latest software? (though you might be stuck with what Voda saw fit to release rather than the latest Samsung stuff). If you haven't already, download KIES from the Samsung website, install it on your computer, connect your phone and follow the instructions - it should tell you if there are any updates for your phone. Worse case, you could do a factory reset, though I assume you're not rooted so can't use Titanium Backup - though you probably have Google backup enabled for your apps (check!) and have a nosey on the market, I think MyBackup doesn't need root but won't be as thorough as Titanium. There's some backup function in KIES I think, however it's a rather poor piece of software and might take ages to do!

Edit: if you want to back up sms, then 3rd party apps (Go SMS, which I use - it's free btw) can backup to your micro sd
