Prison Officers are there all the time and no I don't read the Express. This is told to me from someone who has first hand experience of the system.
These families are paying for someone on the inside to supply the prisoner with drugs.. that is their choice but why is this being allowed to happen?
Forget 'why is it allowed to happen' because it's not intended at all.
What you need to ask yourself is why shameful parents would do such a thing knowing damn well that it's being used to pay for drugs. They're the ones who are a damn disgrace, not the prison officers. If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
You can ask why some people chose to do this all you want . They just do
The point of my thread is to maybe make people aware this is going on and has been going on for a long time.
I am not knocking the prison officers , I am asking why .. as this is common knowledge and has been for a long time within the authorities overseeing the prisons nothing is being done to try and stop it0 -

There are drug rehabilitation courses inside prisons for the inmates who want help getting off the drugs.
Where are you getting this "direct debit" to pay for drugs???you are so ill informed cavework.
Family and friends are allowed to send in money for toiletries, tobacco and things like that, the inmates dont actually recieve the notes and coins and postal orders you know, they are put in a book so he knows how much money he has and out of this money he can buy the things i have mentioned.
As for the drugs coming into the prison....sometimes friends and family try to smuggle drugs in because of misguided loyalty, fear, threats, theres all sorts of reason. How do you suggest the prison retrieve the drugs when they are pushed in their bottoms and other areas of their body???
On visits they are monitored by cameras throughout the visit, sometimes there are over 200 visitors in one room visiting the inmates, can you suggest a way of watching every single visitor during their hour visit??
Yes some do get through,Ive actually stopped a 82 year old grandmother french kissing her grandson and passing drugs from her mouth to his so please dont think its just this "direct debit" which is how they get drugs.
I think you really need to read up on the running of a prison before posting on here.
Sorry for the rant but its people like you who give prison officers and the prison service a bad name,we are trying our best believe me.0 -

make people aware of what?
that drugs get smuggled into
a - nightclubs
b - the country
c - prisons
d - all of the above
or that people smuggle phones in to prisons?
or maybe that people who aren't in prison set up direct debits?
what do you want to be done to try and stop it? would you be happy for your friend to go and visit her son and have a finger rammed up her arse to make sure she's not smuggling drugs? what about a camera to make sure she doesn't have a phone up there? or maybe you want direct debits to be illegal?
Just in case you haven't realised, it's illegal to smuggle anything into prison, so it's obviously being done illegally without the guards knowing who's doing it.0 -

Can you not read????
Can you not see the posts above from prison officers/their family members who have told you the lengths the prison service go to to stop the low life scum and their families smuggling drugs into prison?
Can you really not understand that the addicts and the supply are borne outside the prison, but while addicts are choosing that lifestyle, commiting crimes and being sent to prison there will ALWAYS be a demand for smuggling drugs into prison.
How is that the fault of the prison service?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
i am just asking how the prison system allows people to still access drugs when they are inside.
The system doesn't allow it. It struggles hard to keep drugs out of prisons - and sometimes fails....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
A new prison is required specialising in drug addicts, high security, closed screened visits with audio phones and a very generous bonus scheme for officers in reward for negative drugs tests for the inmates.
New inmates are given the drug they are addicted to in a decreasing dose over 30 days to nothing.
Nobody leaves until they have been clean for 3 months of drug testing.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
From Wikipedia
There are 85000 prisioners in the UK, 44000 staff. Lets be optimistic and say 80% work with prisoners directly.
On average they do 35 hours a week for 45 weeks a year (they have say 6 weeks paid leave and 1 week sick)
Work it all out and each prisioner gets 12.5 hours on input per week, that leaves a lot of time to fill on there own.0 -

I would be interested to know what exactly you think it is that can be done to stop drug use while in a custodial environment. What is it that the prison system should be doing from those who are addicted to drugs?
From your posts, you seem to take exception to the fact that your friend's son is still dependent on methadone 18 months on. There are typically two methadone programmes that prisoners are subject to: reduction and maintenance. If your friend's son is not on a maintenance programme, which is his choice, then what should the prison service do in this situation? Get the dispensing nurses to take it upon themselves and reduce the amount of methadone he gets? Force him to detox off of it?
As with other posters, it seems that you place a great deal of focus and blame on what other people should be doing to help your friend's son when there is only one person who can take responsibility for his actions and that is himself. Until he takes the step to stop topping up his methadone, and commit to a reduction plan and seek support for his addiction, then there is not a single thing that other people can do that will have any effect whatsoever.
A simple suggestion would be for you to actually think of the wider situation and what can realistically be done rather than ranting here.0
