Never one to judge
(thats a lie hehe).
Cant common on the prison thing, the whole system needs an overhaul, I wouldnt know where to start.
A dear friend of mine died while "surviving" on methadone, he couldnt do it and died from an overdose. This was 2 years ago and even now, it saddens me. I dispise drugs and alot of people that do them. The majority I dislike from personal experience, however this guy, he was a good guy with dreams and aspirations, he could have made something out of his life, will power just wasnt strong enough.
Wish all the best to your friend, as her friend all you can do is support her through any difficulties with her son.99.9% of my posts include sarcasm!Touch my bum :money:Tesco - £1000 , Carpet - £20, Barclaycard - £50, HSBC - £50 + Car - £1700SAVED =£0Debts - £28500 -
The question is .. my friend is the mother .. this lad has been a Herione addict for well over 15 years.
hE HAS SPENT MOST OF HIS ADULT LIFE IN PRISON.
My friend wants her son back at home but she realises the risk.
Prison is supposed to be a deterent ..
Drugs are sold in prison .. Direct debits set up by the people on the outside to supply???
18 months and the Lad is still on Methodone??
This is the way our prison service works? .. go into prison and your drug habits are no concern of ours as long as you do your time and don't make trouble.
We will turn a blind eye even if it is obviouse you are still out of your tree and we won't ask why or where you are getting it.
Appalling. Prisoners should be made to go cold turkey in prison, that might make them think twice about re-offending, not to mention clean by the time they get out.
I so wish l was Prime Minster!

Thank you for this reply.. yes I probably did Rant and this was probably the wrong place to throw the dummy out of the pram. but..
this is a dear friend of mine who has had to deal with this situation 3 times over the last 10 years.
My point is how on earth can people who are incarcerated on drugs charges or drug related offences .. robbery .. burglary still be in a position to obtain drugs when in prison?
Direct debits paid by family members on the outside?
People still on methodone after 12 months?
Thanks for the replies and sorry about the rant.0 -

There are many and complex issues here from the dealers hassling your friend to what will happen to the son when he gets out.
He doesn't have to come 'home' and itt sounds as if your friend is dreading it. Presumably the Probation Service has been in contact - does she want him back around while he's still on drugs?
The problem of his addiction will bring all the other troubles with it from the serious lack of cash, to potentially stealing from his own family, to the kind of criminally minded nasties that are attracted to the house because of him.
She's got to think of herself. If he's not serious about kicking the habit (and the 'friends' and lifestyle that accompanies it) then she has got to be tough, or else she'll only be dragged down - physically or emotionally hurt or at the least 'enabling' him to keep on as he's keeping on.
As her 'boy' has been behind bars for most of his adult life, I'm sure she knows that already.
All you can do is 'be there' for her - and yes, the system stinks. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
Yes, the system does stink but what stinks more is that addicts only ever see the error of their ways once they have used and abused and alienated every single person in their lives.
Your friend has lots to fear and one of the main ones will be the harassment from those who are owed money. They are already on the case.
I think your friend should rethink the prospect of having back at home with her. Only abject misery can possibly ensue.0 -
A lot of addicts use their methadone script as a maintenance dose. Many of them also acquire and use heroin on a regular basis, especially if they can con or steal money and/or valuables from their darling Mums.0

i think it's only fair that someone from the Prison Service should have a say! The system does stink but no Prison Officer would condone drug use once inside. Depending on the category of Prison, mobile phones are banned yet they get smuggled in (often through places that you can only imagine). Regular drugs testing, both random and planned, goes on and punishments are dished out for those who abuse this. I, for one, would much rather someone be on medically controlled methodone rather than heroin.
I really don't see what you're ranting at; as someone who works with addicts, they are the most selfish people ever to walk the earth. The best thing your friend can do is to move away, change the telephone numbers and drop all contact. The dealers will win and your friend's son will be back inside before the end of the year. I'm really sorry if that's harsh but seriously, prisons pretty much have revolving doors.
Nevertheless, I wish her all the best and all the luck in the world that she is the exception to the rule.0 -
Yes I did rant .. and yes I am mad , I make no excuses for him and the situation he is now in but TBH .. what is the point of a prison sentence when these scams are allowed to continue.
Direct debit to supply drugs in prison???
which scam? there are no scams.
Mobile phones - they're not 'available if you pay' but some people have them smuggled in and charge other people to use them. If anybody is caught with a phone it's confiscated and they're dealt with accordingly.
Drugs - Again, they're smuggled in. Dealers will often commit petty crimes so they can do time, then they'll get somebody to smuggle drugs in to them and they'll sell them in prison where they make a fortune due to what they can charge.
None of it is allowed to happen, it just does and the prison guards do what they can to stop it.0
