Son being realeased from prison

Options
I am posting this for a dear friend,
Anyone who wants to make judgements regarding the reason this person was in prison is not welcome on this thread..
My friends son is being released from prison in the next 4 weeks. He is going to live with his Mum , but has a curfew 7pm to 7am for 15 months.
He is a Heroine addict and has spent most of his life in prisons.
He has just spent 18 months in prison and is still reliant on Methodone .. that makes me really angry , but that is open for discussion for another day.
He is due out in 4 weeks . my friend is already receiving phone calls on her mobile from 'people who have an interest about her sons release due to the fact they supplied him while he was in prison and have not been paid.
Unbelievably direct debits are set up for prisoners by families on the outside,to pay for this addiction and these people on the outside are making a fortune .
Another thing .. mobile phones are avaliable in prison if you can pay to use them?
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON IN OUR PRISON SERVICE ???

That's a terribly sad state of affairs. I hope your friend's son can beat his addiction and have a happier future. x

cavework, are you just ranting or have you got any particular questions you need answered, or experiences you would like to hear about?

Does your friend have to have her son live with her? Does she want him to?
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

If he was testing positive for heroin inside why was he given methadone? It's a difficult road to go down, speaking from experience the terrible affliction that heroin addiction has on the individual and the family, is devastating.

He will only become clean if he wants to, not because his mum wants it, or he has no money to buy it.

Drug dealers will always make money, as there are always addicts willing to buy, debating the legalities or morals of this is neither here nor there.

Your friend has to be there for her son, but also not be scared to walk away if he's not making any attempt at getting clean. There is no getting through to a drug addict, I've tried, and it ends up blowing up in your face.

They are over filled and under staffed and under funded and the prison officers turn a blind eye to the drugs if it keeps things calm.. I sure as hell wouldnt want to be dealing with 1000+ inmates in withdrawal..

I too have very strong opinions on addicts, methadone and the system... ;) .. they are probably similar..

My cousin is the same.. been inside for years manages 3-4 months out and is currently in for a second long term..

The question is .. my friend is the mother .. this lad has been a Herione addict for well over 15 years.
hE HAS SPENT MOST OF HIS ADULT LIFE IN PRISON.
My friend wants her son back at home but she realises the risk.
Prison is supposed to be a deterent ..
Drugs are sold in prison .. Direct debits set up by the people on the outside to supply???
18 months and the Lad is still on Methodone??
This is the way our prison service works? .. go into prison and your drug habits are no concern of ours as long as you do your time and don't make trouble.
We will turn a blind eye even if it is obviouse you are still out of your tree and we won't ask why or where you are getting it.

And I, like the others, can read the information - I read it the first time - what I don't understand is what you expect from fellow members? Advice? Answers to questions?

Perhaps you should consider what you would like, and rather than sound off and opinionate ask others for whatever it is you are seeking.

Ok, so the answer is yes then

You haven't posted a question which anyone can answer, so why not just say you want to rant. But in which case, you can't really stifle discussion about the issue too as you are trying to do.

If you want advice as to how your friend can handle any aspect of the release, then say so, but you then need to specify what bit of this situation you are looking for help with.

I have a cousin who has spent most of his adult life in prison (he's only 33, first went in at 18). Heroin is the cause of it all, he relies on stealing to pay for his next fix.
Intravenous drug use has led to him contracting Hepatitis B, yet he still continues to abuse his body. His upbringing has a lot to do with it, but his brothers and sister have turned out ok, so he can't keep using that as an excuse for his behaviour.
Another cousin of mine took him in to help him, but he ended up back inside due to his sticky fingers. He has admitted to quite a few members of our family that he loves going inside. He gets a nice bed, 3 meals a day, and is looked after quite well by the medical staff. He gets clean inside but lasts about 3 months on the outside before he's at it again.
Sorry to say that he is beyond help.

My friend has agreed to have her son home once released . He will be on a curfew 7pm to 7AM for 15 months.
Can anyone give help as to an advice line , support line that is avaliable in this situation for her?
Yes I did rant .. and yes I am mad , I make no excuses for him and the situation he is now in but TBH .. what is the point of a prison sentence when these scams are allowed to continue.
Direct debit to supply drugs in prison???
