The minute this ' Junkie' becomes part of the system .. ie prison , then the system becomes responsible for the outcome.
What is the point of the system if they cannot deal with the problem?
Locking people with addiction away for a few years never solves the problem and the prisons are becoming full to bursting .It is like a revolving door
So Ronald .. whats your solution ? Put his Mum in prison as well?

You REALLY have no idea what the parents of people in this position have to go through.

Sure, sure. Always somebody elses responsibility. To me the prison system is there to keep scum like this off the street for a while, hopefully he'll be back there before long or stabbed to death by a home owner whose place he's robbing. I'm easy with either outcome.

Prison Officers are there all the time and no I don't read the Express. This is told to me from someone who has first hand experience of the system.
These families are paying for someone on the inside to supply the prisoner with drugs.. that is their choice but why is this being allowed to happen?

because these people do it! they are the ones doing wrong, not the people trying to stop it from happening. why cant you see that?

why dont you be a responsible citizen and report this information to the police?

    My point exactly

He probably will be .. the system just isn't working. The amount of addicts is increasing all the time, the amount of re offenders that are addicts is increasing all the time.
The prisons are fit to burst with this type of offender but they are released after serving their time and are usually back within 12 months.

Now that is just downright nasty.. my friend was a great Mum, this lad is 30 years old and i am just asking how the prison system allows people to still access drugs when they are inside.
such a great mum that her son ended up a junkie in prison! amazing parenting!:rotfl:

it allows it because it cant stop it all no matter how hard it tries. there will always be scum who buy it for their prisoner relatives!

Hi person from the prison service..
I agree you have one really tough job and yes addicts can be the most selfish people but the question remains
why can people on the inside get the family of addicts who are in prison, to set up direct debits on the outside ,to pay for the supply of drugs to people in prison?

Why when they are supplied with these drugs it is not noticed?.
mobile phones that the prison service don't allow, no matter where they are secreted ... ?
Sorry .. maybe it's time to reassess your search methods.

Ok; you know so much and have all the answers then feel free to sign up! Body searches; you have a female visitor so you're limited as to how far the search can go (blame the human rights lobby for that and not the Prison Service). She then passes mobile phone that has been hidden in her knickers to inmate who basically, and I deeply apologise to anyone sensitive here, shoves it up his ar$%. We do have full body scanners but with a visiting room with 150 inmates it's just not feasible. Cell searches are regular but the fact remains that despite being stupid enough to be caught and land in prison they are highly organised. Mobile phones in prison are a big commodity and for some inmates the risk of being caught outweighs everything.

Perhaps your friend's son should instead think about the ramifications of his actions or is that the Prison services fault too??????

This board should be renamed The Chav Board or something. We've got issues such as wife beating, smack head kids, the pros and cons of having an affair. It's a rich tapestry of the behaviour of the underclass.

Anyway, to the point. Don't blame the prison system. Blame this junkie for screwing up his life and blame his mum for not stopping it happening. It's always somebody elses fault though, eh?

You obviously know little about drug users & think that your stereotypical junkie is some kind of gutter-living lowlife.

In actual fact (you can google ...its all there).....there are MORE hard drug users working (yes thats right WORKING) in high demanding city jobs than any other section of the population.

Isn't it actually a case of families being able to send a small amount of money for the prisoners to use for things inside but not actually intended for drugs?!!!

They are in prison for committing a crime - it's not a detox centre! Prison officers are trained to deal with criminals, not drug addicts.

I am married to a prison officer and agree that prisons are not able to rehab every prisoner - nor should it be their job to do so. They do what they can for those that want the help but most of them will go to unimaginable lengths to get drugs whilst inside.

Checks, searches and drug testing is carried out all the time but many prisoners are experts at concealing what they need to. They are adults and are the only ones who can make the decision to stop and until they do it is highly likely that they will return to prison within a short space of time.

On another point the families who fund drugs going into the prison are surely a huge part of the problem? Why do they willingly go along with it? Why do they not alert the authorities if they are approached for cash? No, they will pay up but expect the overstretched prison staff to deal with the consequences.
