  • Hi,
I've recently made a claim against Studio, the charges totalled £664.85 before interest being added...I know, an obscene amount, my own fault!
Anyway, I've just received a letter from them this morning, saying as a goodwill gesture they are refunding me the whole amount of £664.85 PLUS interest of £155.07 which I didn't even ask for :j
So what's the problem I hear you say.......well, they've only gone and paid me with an envelope stuffed full of £20.00 studio vouchers :rotfl:And they've credited my account with £819.92, I just seen this online!
I don't mean to complain but, well, do I have any right to insist that they give me cash instead, it's just me and catalogues don't go well together (as you can see). I had planned on closing my Studio account when this was resolved. And there is no way, as a recovering shopping addict, that I will spend that amount of money in Studio, even if it's 'pre paid' I still don't need / want anything from the studio catalogue....so what do I do? Buy £820.00 worth of christmas lights and flog them on ebay? :rotfl:And I really, really want the account closed, i'm working on my credit report and besides I don't want to go down the route of minimum payments, etc, EVER again!
If I just close the account will they send me a cheque? If they say no when I ask for cash instead, or should I just count myself lucky
    It's a good job I've a sense of humour:rotfl: £820.00 shopping vouchers indeed!

Have they credit your account? Was your account in negative balance?
I will check what your answers are firstly before I ask a follow up question or questions.

I like your sense of humour!!! (£820 quid of lights- brilliant!!)

From what I understand of what you have said, they have repaid all charges, with interest, but its in the account.

If that is the case, write them a polite letter, asking them to close the account and forward a cheque to you for the balance. You have a right to the money in cash, not vouchers, as its your money. Keep a copy of that letter.

Its clear they are hoping you will just spend the money with them, where they get a profit and the money back. Thats unfair of them.

You are right to stay away from temptation.

Take a print out of the account, showing the credit and interest, for future reference in case its needed.

I'm sorry, but I don't know about the vouchers.

The very best of luck to you.

  • The only thing I would add to Orc's post is probably to send the vouchers and say you don't want them.

  • Thanks for the advice orc & natweststaffmember,
I contacted Studio by email & they said to send the paper vouchers back to them & they will send me a cheque and close my account for me, so I have posted the vouchers back by recorded delivery with a printout of the email correspondence & a covering letter, now just a matter of waiting for my money. My first reclaim was successful! A big chunk of my overdraft is going to be paid off, my oil tank is going to be filled just b4 xmas and a new battery and wiper blades for my car! Now I am spurred on to do more, who shall I target next ?:rotfl:1 down, 6 more to go!!

    I'm glad its working out!

If you have all of your bank statements go through them carefully. Look for loans or credit cards, old mortgage account numbers etc. Then get list of charges for each of them. Plan and action- go for reclaim. Principle is dead easy and works.
Also check for PPI on any accounts.

Remember to shop around for your heating oil!!

    Take care and best regards!!

  • I had sent the template letter from here regarding unfair charges on my account, they have cashed the £10.00 cheque but have sent a form back saying

Please complete the attached proof of identity to enable us to comply with your request and the statutory obligations placed upon us concerning secure access to data. please note that your application cannot be processed and any data released until the proof of identitiy forms are recieved.

I have to have a witness also to sign these forms.

On other templates regarding credit cards and so forth on here say do not send this information, does this include with catalogues ?

Have they said who the witness needs to be?

Did you apply for the catalogue account online? If online, they shouldn't already have you signature.

I have sent out letters with a scribble of some sort that is not my signature. It changes by the company. So if they ever lift it to place on any agreement, it would not be my signature. I have always had the data sent to me without any stalling tactics. I hope that helps.
  • Hi,

They want it to be witnessed by someone not related, and yes I did it all online.
