You just thought you'd bump up a ten year-old thread to do so?

    Well done..
  • Hey mate. I'm glad you have bumped this thread as I have a question - how did you claim back the PPI on your shop direct account and how do they charge it and sell it? Is it something they sell to customers separately or is it automatically included and hidden? Thanks in advance.

You don't need a ten year old thread to ask for the answer to this

No PPI is automatically included and "hidden". That's a myth fostered by claim companies. For credit and store cards it was detailed on a separate line on each monthly statement. Hardly "hidden".

Hi, PPI is normally added on a monthly basis and the amount added on a catalogue account would probably be calculated as a percentage of your total balance, and should show as a transaction on your statement, rather than added automatically.

However, it was not uncommon in the past especially for online applications for the box relating to signing up for PPI to be pre checked which might have resulted in PPI being added without a customer’s knowledge, if this is what you mean by automatically.

If you are unsure if you had PPI on an account, you could contact them or request information about your account using a subject access request.

I don't think you are allowed personal messages until you've made quite a few more posts on the forum.

Regardless, it's unfair to invite personal messages on topics which can just as easily be discussed on the forum. I do hope you aren't employed by a Claims Management Company?

Pre-populated boxes for online sales was not widespread (though several lenders did employ it over time), but even so I fail to see how this was "hidden" PPI because (just as you say) the insurance would have appeared on every monthly statement.

"Hidden" PPI is a claims company myth, fostered in the hope that those who may have forgotten that they had PPI will sign up to find out and so pay out a third of any redress!
