I am thinking of reclaiming my charges from catalogue companies. I have all my statements which list the charges as and when they were charged, so do I really need to request statements/data if I already have it, can I not just send a copy of the statements the charges are on instead? Really confused by this.

    Of course not.

Why would you want to waste time, and more importantly your money, requesting details you already have???

Just move onto the next stage of reclaiming.

That's what I thought, so that is what I did...sent photocopies highlighting all the charges, and it got me nowhere, I got a response of 'charges are applied for late payments etc as per our terms and conditions' end of story etc blah blah blah.
So I asked this question in-case I had gone about it wrong by doing that, but clearly I didn't do it wrong. Still got me no where though :(

I am currently applying for a DRO (form of bankruptcy) and I'm having charges put on my accounts left, right and centre, so if I don't have a DRO granted, then I will look into reclaiming all the charges again. BUT after the response I got from the creditors last time I don't hold out much hope.

I have been trying to claim back charges added to me la-redoute account (they have added over £200 worth of charges as I pay via cheques which they claim never arrive on time!).

They are not having any of it, these are two of the replies I have received from them over the last two days:

    "Dear XXXXX
We are writing in response to your recent enquiry regarding the administration
    charge on your account.
Details of the charges are printed within our policy pages in the back of our
    current catalogue.
Whilst we appreciate your comments, we are sorry but on this occasion, our
    charges will stand.
    Kind regards

    account and much more......"

    &

    "Dear XXXXX
As previously advised, we are unable to remove the charges or assist further
    with this matter.
I apologise for any inconvenience caused.
    Kind regards

No matter what I say to them, they go back to the fact they have outlined the charges in their policy pages of their latest catalogue and I don't know what to do next, ady help ideas please?

    Many thanks

I have had no luck in claiming charges from Littlewoods, Ace and Very. All have however kept the £10 sar fee (Very and Littlewoods being one company meant that I only sent one £10 fee).

So in my experience, it was a long drawn out NOTHING. I hope others have had better success.

I have sent a letter asking them to repay £446.50 + interest in admin charges (can't believe it came to so much - must be more careful!). I got a letter today saying about the OFT guidelines and that they will credit my account with £5.50 as a gesture of goodwill! This amount reflects any charges made over £12 from May 2006 when the guidelines were put in place.
As this is a catalogue rather bank/credit card reclaim am | able to pursue the balance?
    Any help would be appreciated

I have just received a letter from these muppets refusing to refund all the admin charges the letter says something like in 2006 the oft say it's ok to charge £12. I get the feeling this is a letter they send to fob you off and hope it goes no further so they can carry on adding charges

Could someone please advice what my next step should be

    Many many thanks

Hi Lilypond - you might want to start your own thread as this is quite an old one. However I would reply to them stating that while the OFT report stated that they would not take action against issuers who charges £12 or under they also clearly stated that that did not mean that they were saying that this amount was fair and that only a court could decide that. I would also state that in any court case you would be asking for a full breakdown of how this amount was reached.
  • Thought I would share my success for all those with on-going complaints that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

In late 2009 I was made redundant and soon debts spiralled with interest and charges added to the mix the situation seemed hopeless. I have mostly paid off my debts now however in the last few years I have been helped by most of the organisations refunding charges although in some cases this can mean by paying the money to a debt collection agency if you still owe debts.

Last week shop direct agreed to refund me all admin charges and PPI from 2 accounts after the complaints reached the FOS which I started the process last July just hang in there and good luck
