On a serious note (lots of boos and hissing from the gallery)

    - the best man has many responsibilities, one of which is to stay to the end of the reception to ensure all guests have transport, gathers up any belongings left behind, tells the venue manager where the pools of vomit are, if any. The best man's partner's responsibility is to support him right through to the bitter end, even though her shoes are crippling her, the grippa knickers were a very bad mistake and she hated the music. She remembers the day is most definitely not about her and her problems, unless she's caught him groping with intent the chief bridesmaid.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

People are responsible for their own transport and belongings. It would never occur to me at a wedding that the best man who I may not even know would be. As for vomit that is just not something that should be an issue and I'm shocked that it's seen as no big deal!. His OH has no responsibility at all.
Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

god, who on earth ever said "my wedding was ace, though the best man's wife left at 1am AND THAT RUINED IT FOR EVERYONE"

totally bizarre that anyone would think that a guest leaving would ruin anything. Not being "allowed" to leave would wind me up no end, but then i'm not with the type of man who would say i could not leave. I've been pursuaded to stay at weddings until say 11 (a reasonable hour) but we've sat away from the music, say in the bar, to avoid the music and be able to chat to everyone as they came out. But he could stay and me go home if he wanted to. I'd be leaving him if he told me i could not leave somewhere!

I would expect a Best Man to be on hand till the end too, and as his wife/partner I would take two paracetamol and support him in that task. Ditto Chief Bridesmaid and her partner.

The old 'dutiful wife' routine eh?

I expect the best man to make a speech, then to relax and enjoy himself. I have absolutely no expectations of the best man's partner.

At the last wedding I went to, the best man's wife (the groom's sister in law) was more than 9 months pregnant and in fact gave birth a couple of days after. Should she have stayed to the bitter end to support her husband?

(By the way, I've no idea if she did stay to the end because I'm a normal person and paid absolutely zero attention to whether she was being wifely enough!)

As soon as I get a wedding invite I'll pm you as my +1, do you like a drink?

Yes please! But if a cash bar, then I'll buy you one in return. I am young, single and gorgeous - but NOT a sponger - so I don't use "what I've got" to get free stuff (apart from a smile and a bit of flirting maybe)!

Also, casting no aspersions here, if I get bored I promise I won't repeatedly whine in your ear (whilst sticking paper in mine) and march outside to sit in a stroppy state of embarrassing, attention-seeking, self-martyrdom.

    ;) x
