Hello lovely peeps,:hello:
I hope this is the right place to post this question that I know you will be able to help me with. Apologies if this question has been asked before...
I want to make some home made oven chips this evening and am not quite sure how to do it.
Par boil potatoes? Spray with oil? Put in for how long? I am sure I can work it out but if someone has a fool proof method I would love to hear it.
Thanks in advance!
Jen

This is how I do my oven chips;)
Cut the spuds into wedges (I don't bother peeling them). Put them in a bowl with a splosh of olive oil or any other oil. Add herbs like rosemary or thyme/ salt/pepper/ paprika/garlic/ a seasoning mix like cajun spices - whatever you fancy really. Toss the wedges about with your hands until coated in oil. Put on a baking tray so they aren't too crowded. Bake at 200 C for 40-45 mins.

I often make oven potato jacket wedges. Scrub the potatoes, cut into wedges, brush with olive oil, sprinkle with salt and freshly ground black pepper, and cook at 220 for about 20-25 minutes turning once (but need to watch them depending on thickness and your oven). You can add spice if you like, to make spicy wedges like you can get in the freezer cabinet in the supermarket. If you line your oven tray with baking parchment (Morrisons do it, I am sure lots of other places do as well), and aren't too heavy handed with the olive oil, they won't stick and the oven tray will only need to be wiped out!:j0

i gave a recipe to someone just the other night for home made oven chips ... ah, here it is!! - hope it might help, think in terms of southern style fries kinda thing. it'll also work with normal potatoes (like king edwards) but these i would cut into wedges and treat the same way.
If you don't fancy the BBQ flavouring then you can use plain oil.

Don't forget you can freeze them, when we have loads of pots at the end of summer, we sometimes make up loads and stick them in the freezer, and because of the oil they don't stick, so are just like bought ones.“Pleasure of love lasts but a moment, pain of love lasts a lifetime.”0

Just a wee reminder not to cook them thoroughly here. Give them a shorter time in the oven, say about 15-20 mins. Flat freeze on baking tray in freezer - when cooled down, then you can bag and tag them. Saves them getting all stuck together. You can then cook from frozen, depending on size of your chips/wedges, give them about 20-30 mins, turning as you would normally do for shop bought stuff.0 -
I find that if you microwave them for approx 5 mins after preparation and prior to cooking in the oven it reduces the overall cooking time to about 30 mins.0

If anyone is trying to cut down on fat use Frylight to spray the tray and then the chips, taste just as good without adding loads of calories. These are also known as Slimming World Chips and they are fabulous.0

You guys!!!!!
Thank you SO much!!!What fab advice!!!
However, a confession. The chips came out REALLY well and as a protective parent I had to try a few first to make sure they were ok
Everyone loved them and wanted more but er-hem.... I had been a bit over zealous in my taste testing!!!
Well, no more shop bought ones for me now. It's home made all the way!!:T :T
Thanks again, you lovely peeps!!!
