Thank you SO much!!!What fab advice!!!
However, a confession. The chips came out REALLY well and as a protective parent I had to try a few first to make sure they were ok
Everyone loved them and wanted more but er-hem.... I had been a bit over zealous in my taste testing!!!
Well, no more shop bought ones for me now. It's home made all the way!!:T :T
Thanks again, you lovely peeps!!!

My son prefers my HM chips to bought ones. I peel & cut the potatoes into chips & then put them in my steamer for about 5 minutes. I then tip them onto a baking tray thet has been spayed with fry light (hardly any).
Bake in the oven until golden, sometimes I spray a tiny bit of fry light over the top of the chips before baking.0 -
we make wedges rather than chips, do it pretty much as said above, wedge the pots, put in a bowl, small splash of olive oil and a sprinkle of dried mixed herbs, put in oven around 200deg for aqpprox 40mins turning halfway through time, they come out rally soft and fluffy, my 2year old loves them.... well thats the excuse I use for making them anyway0

Hi all! Sorry haven't been around much.. have had a really busy week! Oh the joys of having a newborn and a toddler.. anyway I digress...
I thinking of going totally au natural where it comes to veg and potatoes instead of buying frozen stuff and ready made chips etc...
Question is.. how on earth do you make oven chips from potatoes??
I understand the whole 'chip shape' but do you have to add anything to them or do you bang them straight in the oven??
I really have no clue do I... lol.

Boil for a few minutes, then drain and let them cool. Using an oil spray [ I use frylight] spray the baking tin with oil, add the 'chips' and spray with oil. Put in oven for about 25 - 30 mins turning onceWe don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0

can also do potato wedges like this although boil for a little longerWe don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0

I am not sure about making oven chips from scratch but I would assume you need to partially cook them then brush with oil , put on a baking tray and bake in the oven.... not sure how they would turn out though#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

i usually just cut par-bolied potatoes into wedges (skin on or off, whichever you prefer) drizzle some oil over them - spead over an oven tray and roast in the oven! add seasoning/herbs if you want too - yum!!!:DHappiness is not getting what you want - it's wanting what you have

This is a SW recipe - Chip your potatoes as usual, then pre-boil them for about 3 mins, till they are still a bit firm (al-dente) but softer at the edges, then drain them and shake them in the pan to give them a bit of a rough texture, this make the end result crispy. Pre-heat oven to about gas 7, spray a baking tray with FryLight and put chips on. Spray again and bang in oven - next to top shelf. Shake it about every now and then to get an even coating and they will take about 20/30 mins depending on how many you're doing. Obviously the more you pile them up, the slower they will cook. If you can spread them out more, they will cook better.
If you don't mind the fat, then brush the pan with oil and then brush the chips same. (not cooked them like this so don't know what they will be like, but I guess they will be ok) I do roasties the same way.
