Of course I would lend it, I wouldn't even have to think twice.

Making someone learn a lesson about money is good for when they have gone out and blown what they had and can't pay a bill or something. But in this instance it's not his fault and it is for something special, not just a night on the town.

OP, I'm glad you decided in the end to allow him to borrow some money. He has a job, a steady girlfriend and you say you know he would pay it back so it's not such a bad situation.

Victory, does your son have a cheque book with his bank account? If he does, he could write a cheque for the amount of money that he wants to borrow, and perhaps you could view it more as cashing a cheque, rather than lending him the money. He will also realise that he's spent the money, iykwim.

I would lend it my son without a second thought op. It is his first anniversary with his girlfriend!

It is not as if he is sitting on his butt and not bothering, he has got a job and it isn't his fault his wages havent come through on time.

If my OH tried to stop me in this situation, i would give it to the lad behind oh's back
The opposite of what you know...is also true
