Samsung 'student' deal - up to £50 cashback

• I got my cashback from this deal by repeatedly emailing them asking what's going on. After buying my laptop in August, I just got the bank transfer through. I thought it was just me!

• I'm afraid that doesn't work. They are now ignoring any emails related to cashback deals. I have a couple of claims outstanding that are way past the 30 day period which I don't expect to be honoured. Equally, I don't expect to take part in any future Samsung promotions.

Although not quite the debacle that nearly took down hoover (flight ticket escapade). I still expect the courtesy of an email from Samsung explaining the situation. Out of the twenty emails I have sent to Samsung, I've yet to receive a reply.

Don't lose hope! It took me almost 7 months for me to get my cashback, but I got it in the end!

Just to update, I finally got paid my £50 cashback on 20/2/13 - 6 days after I chased this Cc Samsung and they responded with the "missed by our accounts team - 7-10 days delay" email, so hopefully if people keep chasing they will get paid.

Samsung are a disgrace not to intervene, this was clearly sold as a Samsung cashback offer, and advertised as such by retailers, so for them to hide behind their !!!!less 3rd party handling company just makes them look dishonest, and puts me off buying their products in future - you can only con people once, but you'd keep a satisfied customer for life!

I assume its only a matter of time before this pops up on TV and Samsung will have to sort it out anyway, so why wait !

Update on yesterday's post. I sent a complaint & copied in Samsung CEO & Watchdog. I then received a reply from help@samsungbacktocollege.com advising payment has been made but will take 5 working days to be received. Obviously I'll believe it when I see it!

I've also contacted Watchdog to investigate this debacle. So any one experiencing problems the lady to email at Watchdog is emily.france@bbc.co.uk.

Samsung really should've taken control of this situation before now. Outsourcing is fine but as that 3rd party company represents yours they really need to be competent, Opia clearly are not.

Unfortunately I didn't get my cashback.

I completed the form and stapled my receipt back in November. I subsequently received an automated acknowledgement e-mail advising that they would e-mail again once it was being processed.

I completely forgot about the claim until this month when I e-mailed them to chase it up.

I was surprised and disappointed to be informed that the claim had been rejected because there was missing documentation and that as I had not provided it within 7 days of request that my claim was now invalid. I had not received any correspondence from Samsung since the acknowledgement e-mail (inbox and all junk checked). I e-mailed back and asked them to confirm what the missing documentation was and prove they requested it.

They did not reply to my letter so I sent them a letter.

I have now received a letter back from Samsung Promotional Support on a simple white A4 piece of paper. No ref, no telephone number, not signed, nothing. They appreciate the points I have raised but they assure me they contacted me by e-mail on three separate occasions (from the same e-mail address the acknowledgement came from) to request a copy of my receipt showing the purchase date.

Perhaps not surprisingly they have not provided any copies of the e-mails. If they did send them then fair enough but I do not believe they did.

Anyway that's my story...just in case it occurs again.

Thanks.

I didn't get my cashback even though it has been validated for months, now the email address help@samsungbacktocollege.com has been switched off, any other way I can contact these people?
• I have had very much the same experience as many above - especially Wisdom123 who cannot find the emails they 'claim' to have sent regarding missing documentation. I have been on to my email provider and they confirm I never received the said emails.

They response is now 'oh well, it is too late now - the offer is expired'. I am disgusted and will write to Watchdog and Samsung Managing Director and hope they honour their promise.

It seems it was merely a way of getting our email details so they can bombard us with junk mail - those emails from them get through okay funnily enough.

I found this thread in 2015 when googling to find out who are "OPIA LIMITED" who had paid £50 into my bank account.

Thanks to this forum I now know this was a Samsung cashback for a Galaxy Tab S purchased just before Christmas 2014. The emails from Samsung had not told me from whom to expect the payment !

So the good news is that the latest Samsung cashback offer has worked (for me at least), all responses and the payment itself were within the published (but long !) timescales.

But if I had seen this thread before then I might not have bought the tablet. As it is I'm pretty pleased with it.

I never really trusted cashback offers. I use (and love) Panasonic cameras but so often they use the same marketing trick (however so far I always got paid on time, and at least Panasonic send a cheque instead of demanding my bank account details). I look at it this way: Why don't they simply drop the price ? The only answer must be that very often they get out of paying the cashback, maybe the customer forgets to claim, maybe they find some nitpicking reason to reject the claim. Leaves a nasty taste in the mouth, can't see how it can help brand image.
