To anyone who has already got the Ryanair new card.
Previously posted it was said that the card doesn`t actually have your name on it.

My question is, can this card be used to buy flights for anyone?
For instance if a relative asked you to use your card to get a flight for them.

Sorry if this has been raised before, but Ryanair has always used the 1 free card technique to allow it to advertise lower fares. However, it is impossible to get a Ryanair prepaid card without having to buy it (unlike prepaid mastercards and electron which were always available free in some form), so are they technically allowed to include it as a free payment method in their adverts?

I'm sure they are intending to get around it by saying that purchasing the card is independent of the flight etc. - but does anyone know the regulations well enough to know if that holds up or not.

Technically it is, but in the real world, there is no reason for owning the card whatsoever other than Ryanair flights. And getting a voucher back means you still have to actually pay the fee regardless. If Argos advertised a £50 HDTV then made you pay £100 and just gave you a voucher they would get in huge trouble.

But,if Argos were selling a camera for £89.99 during september then put it up to £99.99 in october and gave you a £10 gift card with the purchase would they get into trouble for that? i dont think so.
With the Ryanair deal you get the £6 back instantly when you use the card for first flight you buy.
    I dont like it,but,.............

  • I've decided there's a good chance I can play Ryanair at their own game - I am not going to get one of these cards for now.

I believe that the implementation has been a rush job and was a week late, and I don't believe it has been rolled out anywhere other than the default ryanair.com/en website.

I have got a Neteller card which is registered to another country and I reckon that Ryanair's terms and conditions as presented to that country have not been altered - there is no notification to them of any change.

I also have a Neteller card registered to a UK address.

I expect to continue to be able make fee-free payments on both cards actually beyond 31st October 2011 simply by using the default Ryanair website of a non UK country. The vast majority of them are in English so no problemo :money:

Those of you who have already have prepaid Mastercards who been herded like sheep into swapping allegiances and already committing to the new card might like to comment.

Methinks they'll do something with IP addresses to stop you doing that if you are in the UK.
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.
  • How can they Richard? If you are French and wish to purchase a flight home to France whilst you are in London, then are you going to be satisfied with a £6 extra charge just because you logged in via a UK IP address? You can bet your Strasbourg you won't :p
