i have just sent a letter off to MBNA to try and claim all my charges back on my CC. I currently bank with A & L and i know there is some link between the 2 companies, will this affect my banking with A & L, ie will they ask me to close account?

    thank you
  • I sent 2 template letters from this MSE site to mbna before christmas with no response so I proceeded with the county court summons , once that was served I recieved a letter offering me £900 from my original claim of £1857 plus interest plus court fees a total of £2389.23.
What should I do should I except the 'goodwiil' gesture or should I hold out?
Should I phone them and try to up the amount offered or would this be a waste of time?
If anyone has had a similar experience with MBNA I would truely value your advice...Thanks.

Not speaking from experience as i have only just sent of for my statements, but like in 90% of cases it's not good to go with the first offer. everyone takes a chance in offering you less first time round (do you really think they would offer you 900 if they was in the right!!!)
let me know if you carry on with it, as i'm doing the same with mbna via my virgin credit card!

I wouldn't imagine that it would cause you a problem - but I'm no expert
  • can you claim for accounts that are no longer open?
  • I'm gonna try to claim my charges back on both my MBNA and MSDW cards even tho both accounts are now closed. Nothing ventured, nothing gained....
  • yes, sent DPA letter in December 2006, received a letter last week concenning my complaint and today a cheque for £200 with no explanation. cashed cheque today and wrote another letter requesting info to make sure its right.

MBNA are nothing to do with Alliance and Lieciester Bank. They bought their credit card section from them but, no, they won't make you close your bank account cos unless you tell a&l, they'll never know anyway.

  • Hi
I'm being a pain I know but can you claim charges incurred when defaulting on payments?
When I was made redundant, I didn't make any payments and it is here that i have incurred massive charges. Same with store cards.
Also, if making a claim for credit and store cards, to which company's data protection dept do you write? GE Capital seem to be the main 'holder' or do you write to the company you had the store/credit card with?
Thanks to anyone who can help.

I am wanting to reclaim charges from an old Sony Credit Card I used to have. I've thrown away most of the paper work I've ever been sent from them, but do notice that they are now run by MBNA, but an older statement seems to show they were run by Royal Bank of Scotland.
When I send my initial letter asking for all my charges to date, who should I write to, or should I do a letter to both RBS and MBNA ? Would MBNA having taken over the card, take over responsibility for all their previous customers/charges ?
