I completely agree with this. If I thought the changing room was likely to have any !!!!!philes lurking I wouldn't send my young boys in at all.
The point about having them stand out in the main part of the room though is to be in plain sight, so that if there was anyone inclined to act inappropriately, they would be seen by the other men and stopped pronto. I don't really know the layout of men's locker rooms but my guess is that if you were a wierdo and wanted to do or say something nasty to a young child it would be easier if they were tucked into a corner where you might be able to frighten them unobserved by others, than out in the centre of the room.
Almost certainly an excess of caution, but we mums do worry about our little ones for a while. And living in London, I'm afraid I have been "flashed" twice, once on the street and once on the tube both times with other people around, so I am aware that a tiny minority of people are just weird in that way.
More often than not these days other people don't want to get involved incase the abuse is turned on them and they cop it, even to save another person from such situations. They choose to turn a blind eye even though they can see someone needs help. It's a difficult scenario to be in unless you have been there yourself you can imagine your bravado easily.
The main part of a comunal changing room isn't always available and its not nice to hang around wet and cold waiting for it to become vacant.Failure is only someone elses judgement.
Without change there would be no butterflies.
If its important to you, you'll find a way - if not, you'll find an excuse ! ~ Easy to say when you take money out of the equation!

I dont see the problem, if there were no men in there, all the boys could be showered and dressed in a matter of minutes. If the men didnt want to go in when there was a woman present then they could just wait.
If i was showering in the ladies, there s no way i would want young boys wandering in.
I cant see the boys being best pleased about it all either

you dont want boys in the womens locker room but a woman in the mens is fine?0 -

i dont know what world you live in (probably a sedated one) but in the real world when someone is told that they are obviously in the wrong place, they leave, and the person who is having his privacy invaded is perfectly entitled to not have to be subject to an audience. and i certainly have no plans to offer to help anyone with their noisy, ill-behaved brats while im starkers, knackered and got a head full of shampoo!
and if i as being aggressive, she wouldnt have just stood there gawping and letting the children mess about.
Once again, just because a point of view is different to your own, does not mean it is wrong.
Your language toward me has become offensive and aggressive rather than reasoned debate. You have no idea if I am sedated in real life, am a moron, "need my head tested", etc, all of which you have suggested.
Having issues with anyone not saying "I agree, you poor thing?" Your problem.
What is wrong with a simple "I disagree" and politely stating the reasons why? As for example DVardysShadow has done. S/he and I often disagree on things but I cannot recall a time the discussion became personally offensive.

I can tell you're not the type of mum that ventures into a male changing room then.
Probably the safest place to be, unless you're abuser.0 -
Our gym has a clear policy
At the age of 8 a child needs to go into their own sex changing room. The parent can wait outside. Before the age of 8 they can go in with their parent regardless of the sex.
Apparently it is set out in national guidelines. Not sure if that is NSPCC or government, but might be worth raising.
You might find the gym has instructed that, and the woman is doing a silly protest0 -

How do we know the children's actual ages? Some children don't look there age these day's
P.S I do agree with what is highlightedIt's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0 -
thought you might like an update - earlier int he week i spoke to the manager and i received an apology from them and the staff member who said she couldnt do anything. apparently the woman in question had used the changing room again (walking through the pool one to get to it!) after id left but that time was physically removed after causing some kind of argument with some men using the changing room. (poor emmzi ould probably need a shot of the vapours with all the 'anger' haha) shes now been banned and apparently the other parents were called to collect their kids after it because she stormed off dragging her one away and just leaving the others. there are now posters put up everywhere reinforcing common sense and making it more explicitly clear which changing rooms are for who.
they wouldnt give me her name though, was planning to report her to the police for being a perve. works both ways!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Definitely agree that at 8 a child shouldn't be in the wrong changing rooms. And an adult shouldn't go in the wrong changing rooms to look after any age children as well.
When I was at a festival earlier this year, I heard a woman complaining about another woman who brought her ~9 year old child into the communal showers. Apparently the mother got the child dressed quickly first and then the boy just stood there waiting for his mother to get dressed. Apparently he was staring at all the naked women while waiting0 -
I'd imagine that the women who say it's ok would have a problem with a man bringing his girls into the female changing room and I'd imagine the leisure centre would have the same issue.
I'd be pretty angry to be honest. If she wouldn't leave I'd be complaining to the leisure centre and if they weren't willing to do something about it I wouldn't be returning there. I wouldn't have issues with young girls getting changed with their dad though. I think most women would have a problem with an adult male watching them change and rightly so.
And there is no way I'd wait to enter my own changing room because she was in there.0
