I was just wondering if anyone out there could help me regarding cooking a chicken in the slow cooker? I did try to look at the thread for it (link on first page of gc) but it won't load- so maybe an old link? I have never done one before and thinking it would be a good idea to cook it like this as I can never get all the meat off the carcass and also assume that it is also slightly more moist and so ideal for making the babies meals with. Its a 1.428kg bird, my sc is only a cheap one from the sm, think its 8 or 9 litres.£20 a day April 2014 £834.87/£600 :j

hi ive got a 6l slow cooker and have done a whole chicken in ours and it was excellent.
i did it using a recipe with stock/cider/lemon/tarragon.
the recipe said to turn the bird half way through but to be honest I tried and it was unmoveable because it
literally collapsed it was so tender.
i was amazed how much more chicken I managed to get off it as opposed to oven roasted.
only problem i had was the carcass literally broke up so you have to be careful to have got all the bones out, you are fishing around a bit, especially careful if its for little ones
6 hours on low was enough for mine, infact the meat would have been better if id took it out earlier I think but they are all different I think mine is a bit of a 'blaster' HTH0 -
Hiya
I've added your query onto our main thread now.

Hi All,
Just wondering if anybody has any chicken recipes for the slow cooker they'd care to share please?
My family all like chicken and I use my slow cooker every day but I struggle to find good chicken dishes for the slow cooker. Any help would be greatly appreciated :j0 -

Hi epskie,
I find that chicken breasts aren't the best for slow cooking as they can become overdone and tough. Thighs and legs are perfect for it and seem to taste better after slow cooking. I just adapt dishes that I would cook on the hob or in the oven but cook them in the slow cooker instead. Chicken in pepper sauce is one of our favourites.

I am on a bit of a roll to get organised tonight, sorry for all the threads.
Last year I put a spatchcock chicken in the slow cooker but when hubby got in from work he had a right moan about having to pick bones out as it had completely fallen apart.
Can you cook them whole and if so, how do you get the bones out?0 -
Yes you can cook them whole and often do. If its completely fallen apart then I think you are cooking it too long.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -
