I do whole ones in it but don't add anything apart from seasoning.0

i have done a chicken and the sc and found the meat odd....very pasty and not the right flavour....having read this i think i will give it another go as people are praising it...perhaps i did it wrongonwards and upwards0

I cook a whle chicken in my slow cooker and freeze it in lots for other recipes. I don't think the SC method is as tasty as an oven roasted one." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

Most definitely!!
Was my first 'roast' meat in the slow cooker (30 years ago) - somewhat fraught family situation - ie - introducing 13 y/o son to new partner - so we went off to Duxford for the day (both soon-to-be DH and son had an interest in aircraft)
For various reasons we were rather delayed in returning home - I lifted the lid of the slow cooker to be greeted by a chicken skeleton and all the meat in the bottom of the slow cooker !!
Nevertheless it was delicious - and saved carving! - It is still a jokey family memory, made poignant by the loss of my lovely DH 2 years ago0 -
I just bung the chook in the SC, nothing else and away we go!0

Yes! Yes! Yes!
No need to add any other liquids at all. I quarter a couple of lemons and stuff the cavity. Slice some garlic and put it under the skin. Sprinkle herbs and grind some salt over. Put it on low for the day or high for 3 to 4 hours and Bobs your uncle.
A friend does it with onions in the cavity and spreads curry paste on the skin.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
