whole chicken in the slow cooker

I cook whole chicken in the slow cooker regularly, sometimes I 'fry' it off in a pan first to give it a bit of colour but have never had a problem. Today I'm going to dry cook a joint of beef in the slow cooker.Spend less now, work less later.0

I tend to take the skin off the chicken first, and chop off any lumps of fat. These either get used for frying on the same day or fed to the dog.
If I want it for a Chinese style dish I pour in some soy sauce and a bit of sesame oil. If I'm using it for anything else I put in a crumbled stock cube and some water. Either way it gets sat on a bed of chopped onion.
It goes on low overnight and comes out soft as butter. The original recipe I used advocated putting it in breast down, but my slow cooker runs hot, and I found the breasts tended to get hard and dried out, so now it goes in on its back.0
